14.8 for fast time on a track slicking off and the qualifying line was 2/3 up the track already. I have to believe had the track been normal and qualifying line around the bottom we not only would have seen the record get smashed but possibly even a 13.99 lap...? Anyone else notice?

And had poor racing

Fast time trials make for poor races

I noticed a great race track with drivers able to run the top, bottom and middle. What more can anyone want?

I agree on the track records/not sure about a 13.XX tho. And the way the Outlaws chew up the track and with 2 classes of cars the racing would of still been fine.

How would to see more different winners at knoxville in all three classes. Start running points invert the hole feild except the guys from the b's. The fast guys will still most of them but you will a small team will win one mabey some like Allen zoutte or someone like that. What you people think it would stop sandbaggen. Time trails suck !!!!!

Oh ya forgot to say no passing points in heats. Take the top 4 or 5 from heats & as far the woo tell them no thanks. Most people don't know that knoxville raceway has to pay them 60,000 for a one night of racing. Then the race track payes the purse. That over 2 million a year they make. And you wonder way the track don't make any money.

Great job by the Dunkin crew once again. With the cool damp weather I'm guessing it would be a tough track prep. Times were fast, racing was good. I agree if it would have been a little heavier and time trials around the bottom they would have been knocking on the track record but the racing may not have been as good. Great night!

If Knoxville is paying $60,000 for sanction fees for 1 night they wouldn't do it at all. I remember 2 years ago they Outlaws had (1) 1 day show period at Knoxville.

Why, because even @ $20,000 sanction fee with $50,000 purse it's hard to make $$. If they paid the $60,000 sanction fee you "think" they paid and the $50,000 purse, they'd have to have 3700 (ADULTS) in attendance to break even on sanction fee and purse only (and then start paying the expenses).

As it is, with $20,000 sanction fee and $50,000 purse, you have to have a minimum of 2334 ADULTS @ $30 per in attendance to break even. Knoxville probably had 4000 in attendance on Saturday Night of which 1000 were probably kids (and some of those are of the age that get in FREE).

As a business, there is no way you'd agree to a sanction fee that exceeds the purse (unless your Iowa Speedway and it's INDYCAR or NASCAR TRUCKS where the purse is pitiful but the fans will fork over $60 per person (no kids prices there) and you get PAID for it being broadcast on TV).

NO WAY this is happening @ Knoxville or any other track. Heck, I'm not sure some of the tracks the Outlaws have been racing at even SEAT 3500 people.

I am not saying it can not bedone, but changes in rules make it harder to set a new record, 410 have to run same tire all night, so they can not run soft tires. The muffler has to cut down a tad in HP. I thought engines made plenty of noise, the only thing I noticed was standing in infield on corner 3 and 4 I did not hear the rapping vibration of off the fence. The goodyear tire were not made to increase speed, they were made to make drivers more important. They have reduced tie width to 16 inches, from 18 inches, but a new track record was set last year with 16 inch tires in 360 class. Can not use wickerbills on dished wing . I guess it can be done, but it will be on a perfect night, a 13.99 record would be a big deal. A sheeps foot was used on track Sat., which does not help lap times.

Run on driver points. If you run a 24 main that means driver how is leading points will start 20th 2 in points starts 19th and on down if you transfer from the heats. No time trails draw for start for heats no passing points in heats. If you win more points moves you back the next week. Now you the same guys in the first four rows.

my post was not negative in any way at the condition of the track. The track was awesome and very racy... only a comment that to run a 14.8 lap 2/3 up the track on a slick surface at Knoxville is absolutely hauling the mail. and only speculating what fast time might have been on a typical qualifying track. Usually when the track is slicked off that high qualifying is well into the 16 second bracket. The Dunkins always do a great job on opening weekend of making sure the track isn't too heavy, fast, and technical so those guys don't tear up all their stuff dusting off the webs. The track was as smooth as glass all night and I'm certain the Knoxville locals appreciate that being night 1.
