What was wrong with what we did the last race,by having the cars go on the front straightaway during a intermission and letting the fans come down and see the cars and drivers?

Another thing I would like to know,if they move the pits out back are they going to lower pit pass prices since our entertainment value will go down since we will only get to see about half of the racing that we now get to see? At least now those of us working on cars can still see whats happening on track while we are getting the cars ready for our next race,I think that most of us in the pits like to watch the racing just like the fans do but if we 're out back we only get to see the races that our car is in.Thats what our $45 to get in will get us?IMO we are being penalized for being on a team and having duties to perform, where in reality we're fans of the sport as well and I know that I like to see a good race whether the car I work on is in it or not.

I know you're going to tell me that it will help the teams merchandise sales but in my opinion that is pure speculation and you can't judge that from the WoO race, since people haven't seen those guys in a few years and they are only around once a year, so of course they all sold a lot of stuff since it was the fans only oppertunity to buy things from those guys.If this all comes about I hope I can be proven wrong but I don't think it's going to make any difference in our sales, the only thing it will do is create a lot more work and bs for the teams.JMO

Terry, no offense to you, but staying status quo is killing this sport. It is not 1980 or even 1990 anymore. The idea of pitting outside is for a majority of the fans. Once they (fans) all disappear, this whole game is DONE! Bottom line is the tracks and the racers are not going to survive without fans. We need to do all we can to make it a great experience for them. Sure, the racing is fantastic, but that just is not enough anymore.

The fight for the customers entertainment dollar (not just in racing) is much more fierce than it was in those days (90's & earlier). Today people do not have to step out their door to be thoroughly entertained. We have to cater to the fans or they are not going to show up. One of the things fans love is to be in the pits and around the cars and racers. Like NHRA, like Traxxass and like Supercross. It gives them an extra reason (s) to be at the races. They can relate to the racers. Half of our fans would not even know who half of the drivers are with their helmets off because they cannot get to them.

Three Southern California tracks shut their doors over the past winter. There are three or four others in California that are on such thin ice that they may not be back in 2013 if they
even finish the 2012 season. Believe it or not, this whole sport is in a crisis situation. Not trying to be creative on the entertainment end of the sport is helping put the nails in the coffin. No tracks equals no racing and nothing to do with our racecars.

Since you mentioned merchandise, that is a no brainer. If you owned a store that was closed when most people were around from 9:00 AM to 9:00 PM, you would not take in a penny
from them. If you have a pit area that is closed from 5:00 PM to 10:00 PM when most of the fans are at the track, you do not take in a penny from them. In both cases if you are open and they can get to you, they will spend.

The part of this whole thing that kills me is getting some teams (not the team Terry works with as they are fan friendly) to help with things like pitting outside or getting teams to come on the track for an autograph session, etc. Some do not want to do it and they are the ones who seem to BITCH about everything under the sun when it comes to racing. I even mentioned that in this weeks PAS program. Fortunately, there is a lot of young blood coming into this sport. The younger drivers and teams get it! They understand the importance of personal promotion and realize it goes a long way. It is refreshing. Many of the old school people (in all facets of the sport from officials, drivers, owners and teams) in this sport need to take a look at what the younger ones are doing and follow their example. It seems they (some - not all of the old schoolers) just do not care about anything, but themselves.

Having said all of that, not sure what is going to happen with opening the pits up for fans. Insurance and fairgrounds issues may prevent it. If that happens, we will do the autograph sessions again. Hope all teams will be considerate enough to support the fans and participate.

I had something else to take care of and was not at the pit meeting last race so not sure what that was all about. If I am at the track today, will check and see.

I was not at the last race, but on opening night the show ran real late. That alone will turn fans away. What i enjoy most at Perris is when we can stage on the track in front of the grandstands. It allows the drivers the oportunity to interact with a few fans before they get in the cars, and the fans seem to really get into it. We have gotten away from this the past few years, and it all leads back to having enough time to do it.

Pitting outside is not going to happen. Perhaps sometime down the road, but in the foreseeable future they will pit inside as usual. There will be an autograph session on the track after qualifying.

One of the reasons the show ran so late on opening night is there was a minumim of six flips after the show began (7:00 PM). There were five flips on the CRA portion of the show. I can remember one in the CLS portion of the show. There may have been others in the CLS portion of the show and the Senior Sprints as well (I do not remember if there were).

Everytime a car flips, it averages between 10-15 minutes (depending on the severity) from the time the red comes out until the green goes back on. That was at least an hour on opening night for the flips. No flips (or bad crashes) and we all get to go home early. However, flipping is part of open wheel racing.

Drivers on the track for introductions is a cool deal, but when multiple divisions are running, it is usually not going to happen.

Since we're on the subject of parking rigs......it would be better if the two-story rigs were required to park adjacent to the front straight, because when they park adjacent to the back straight, they block the spectator's view of the cars on the back straight. Just a suggestion in the interest of fan-friendliness.

Amen to that Bob, or park the rigs out back like Calistoga, the PAS is the only track i have been to that parks haulers in the infield, Why is that? nobody bitched about Manzanita, Vegas, Tulare, Chico, Hanford, Santa Maria, etc. Honest question, why?

Bob never noticed that the view was blocked by tall trailers i know when they designed the track that the back strait is higher than the front strait and ive sat all over the pas from the front row on the front stretch to upper rows in 1 and four and ive never been in a bad seat in the house . now i think the teams like being in the infield because of easy access to the cars under reds and also the work area in turns 3 and 4. there is no easy in and out gate for the cars and teams at the pass like at hanford , tulare chico , etc . imo the car access is the main reason for pitting inside . but this may all change soon enough .

We need more sprint car racing at our home track.

I don't know about some of those other tracks you mentioned, but although the rigs were parked outside of the track at Manzy, the cars were "pitted" in the infield.

Our new track out at Arizona Speedway has brought in new fans, and that's what's needed at Perris in my opinion. Let kids in free or something, anything besides just raising the price of tickets.

This was the biggest turn out they have had, there was 21 ASCS cars and 2 Challenge cup for a total of 23 cars, the track was great, we put on a great show, it was a great great night and the crowd loved it, we had soooo many people come up to us it the pits was crazy.........

Last year it was more or a mix of ASCS, Challenge Cup, and Gasket cars, which currently not legal to run ASCS.

Last years races were not ASCS races, they were put on by a few guys that wanted to promote the races, and they funded the entire purse themselves.

ASCS has the purse set up for all of the races at the beginning of the season, so when you show up and race you know what you will receive all year long.

ASCS welcomes any individuals or groups that want to add to the purse, there are several ways you can step up if you want to......

Hard Charger
Worst Luck
Heat races
Main events
Tire sponsors
Fuel sponsor

I'm not sure where the rest of the guys were not out there, but we had a full field, which is a hole lot better than not..............
I hope this helps with some of the questions

If you want to make Perris more fan friendly here are a few things that could be done. Lower, or

get rid of parking fee. Remove the no reentry sign at the front gate. Perris is the only race track I know of that is not stamping hands for reentry!
