Sherman Set to Defend Canyon Clash Title this Weekend!

Lonnie Wheatley, PEORIA, Ariz. (April 23, 2012) – Jeremy Sherman is poised to defend his Canyon Clash title this Saturday night as Canyon Speedway Park fires back to life with the Second Annual Canyon Clash after a pair of idle weekends.

The defending ASCS Canyon Region champion swept through last year's inaugural version of the Canyon Clash atop the 1/3-mile clay oval en route to his third career series championship.

An open practice session on Wednesday night from 6:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. will precede Saturday night's racing action, which goes green at 7:00 p.m.

While the wingless Sprint Cars of the ASCS Canyon Region headline Saturday's Canyon Clash at Canyon Speedway Park, the Pure Stocks, X Mods, Southwest Mod Lites and ASCS2 Micro Sprints will be in action as well.

Last year's Canyon Clash triumph was among Sherman's series' best five feature wins on a championship season in which he extended his career ASCS Canyon Region feature win total to 33.

Sherman will be looking for his first series win of 2012 after finishing third to Charles Davis, Jr., and R.J. Johnson in the season opener at Canyon Speedway Park on March 24 and then sitting out ASCS Canyon Region round two at Arizona Speedway on April 14.

Davis, Jr., who made it two-for-two in series action by beating R.J. Johnson and Bruce St. James to the stripe at Arizona Speedway, is out to the early ASCS Canyon Region points lead over Johnson, St. James, Josh Pelkey and Nick Aiuto, with the balance of the top ten including Dalten Gabbard, Brian Hosford, Andrew Reinbold, Michael Colegrove and Ryan Linder.

Matt Martinez is out to the early Canyon Speedway Park points lead in the Pure Stocks after winning the season opening feature on April 7 in front of Chris McCurdy, Jr., and Jody Henderson, with Jake Johnson atop X Modified points after a March 24 score in front of Jason George and John Foster.

Tony Martin guns for his second Southwest Mod Lite win in a row at Canyon Speedway Park after beating Mike Ryan and A.J. Martin to the line on March 24, with Josh Castro also trying to double up in ASCS2 Micro Sprints after taking the checkered flag in front of Dustin Cormany and Joshua Shipley on the same night.

Tickets to Saturday's Second Annual Canyon Clash are just $15 for adults, with a $2 discount for Military, Seniors and Students. Children ages 7-12 are $6, with children 6 and under admitted free. VIP passes are available for $20.

It was over 80 degrees up here in the Ponderosa pines last weekend, and this weekend looks great too.

This lake (Goldwater) is about a mile down the road, and if it wasn't for a Sprint car race you couldn't drag me down Phoenix way.
