Looking for ideas/opinions on what are the best casting # 305 blocks to use for a racesaver sprint motor, and also if there are any in particular to avoid. The following casting number blocks are currently allowed: 361979 460776 460777 460778 14010201 14010202 14010203 14088551 14016381 14016382 14016383 14094766 355909 14093627 14101147 10243878 4715111 10046164 14102058.
Thanks,
John

I currently have three 305 blocks just sitting in storage,Ii believe my father thought they were 350's and brought them home quite a few years ago? I went through the pain of searching the #'s for a guy that turned out to be a scam, thier located in ND if anybody has a use for them possibly please take them off my hands, im not completly sure they are what the 305 guys are looking for (best piece) but im pretty sure thier (rebuildable/machineable) cores

speedway motors sell a machined Wheeler block for about $788.00. You can not get a junkyard block machined for less than this. If you put a 350 head on your block, you must notch top of block to prevent valves from hiting top of cyl,

Those blocks have been discontinued through Speedway.

I want to know what we are supposed to do for a block in the near future. There are only certain casting numbers allowed and they are getting hard to find in my area. When scrap prices went up, a lot of them got junked. I have been looking for a good block for almost 3 months now and still haven't found one. Either they have the wrong casting number or the cylinders are too scarred to clean up....

dirtdevil, do you know anyone going to Knoxville from your area? I would be interested in them if they are correct numbers and able to clean up. Message me if you know of anyone

sorry on my delay of responce, Ya, 88, I suppose in your neck of the woods its IMCA country (cant believe im talking about that on this borad) alot of the stock/hobby cars tear down a late 70's early 80's metric two door cars and chuck the block (scrap it) I have a friend that builds these door cars and quickley called him up to cease all disposal of the (not desired) 305!!!, wait wait I have guys in need wait!! he would have gladly helped if he had some, I was hoping to save the 305 thing (blockwise) before it ends up like the 360's are now, pricewise, I have a soft spot for 305 racers because they are still trying to race a sprint in a always evolving $$$ money pig of a car , its too bad, but thats the nature of the beast, hopefully something evolves into a uniform set of rules for these guys to build a motor themselves and without going through a rebuild every 12 nights or spending way to much on a "limited class" , anyway, check your mail 88 .
