I do know that a couple years ago, the first year Tony came to Fargo ND and raced a Late model race here, they were at the track testing the car and they said Donny ran the car a few laps and he commented that it was the first time he'd ever drove a late model. So he's at least made a couple laps in one.

Didn't Bloomquest and Kinser switch cars in 86 or 88 at a practice?

Donny grew up smack dab in the middle of WISSOTA territory so he's been around them enough to know what they're about. I'm sure Steve and Donny will be fast after sorting things out for a lap or two.

Steve is like Tony & AJ. Give him any car with a steering wheel and he'll be competetive.

Kinser didn't get a fair chance to succeed at NASCAR because Bernstein gave him old equipment. If he would have gotten good stuff, he would have done just fine. In equally prepared cars, he did win an IROC race.

Winning an iroc race is like guessing the number between 1-10. It was so boring they had to retire it.

Just remember that he won a race at the Talledega big track. I forget the name of the series but it was in equally prepared cars and he was racing against all the champions of the various series.

I live in Fargo. Grew up watching racing in Minot,ND, where Donny grew up, went to high school. He never once got into a stock car, not even a street stock car. He went straight into sprint cars at age 15 and never looked back. If he drove a couple laps at Fargo last year in a late model when Smoke was here, that's news to me. But,I guess it wouldn't surprise me that he may have jumped in and drove the late model car Tony drove, just to see what all that weight was like. I can't imagine he would get into the big Eldora late model deal. Other than fun, nothing good could come out of it unless he really started practicing like the Cup drivers did prior to their first dirt race, they rented tracks to hone their skill in a late model before they got to Eldora and they still looked pretty rough except for those few that had some experience.

In Steve Kinser's 35+ years of racing has he ever driven a late model? Maybe in the 1970's before he ran the WoO series full time? Granted a LM from that era would be a lot different then what he will be driving at Eldora.

Stewart has driven Late Models over the years. I've got photos of him in on back in 2003 but it probably goes back further than that.

Just an FYI, a Dirt Late Model is NOTHING like a NASCAR Cup car. You can't carry a thing over from Cup to help you jump into a Late Model. A Dirt Late Model is a beast all its own.

Excuses, excuses. A GOOD driver can take a car and do something with it. It was good enough to qualify, and if anybody else would have seen any talent in him for the sport, maybe he would have been picked up. He can not be put in the same category as Smoke. Put Smoke in ANY type car, and he will run the wheels off of it.

Although Kinser is one of the best wheelmen anywhere, I don't expect either one of them to compete for the win. Modern dirt late models are just too specialized....rear axles that shift the left wheel forward in the chassis more than a foot in the corners, independant front suspensions, etc.

I would LOVE to see them run up front but my prediction is Kinser around 10th, Shatz and Tony Kanaan somewhere between 12th and 20th and Danica the last car still running at the end of the race.
