if you were the owner of ASCS..........why schedule a national tour race on the same night and only 100 or so miles away from the WoO at Knoxville? And knoxville is runnin 360's that night. Not to say that ascs won't still have a good show at Denison.......but you would think it coulda been a bit better if they would have scheduled a better weekend. Maybe when late models or modifieds are racing at Knoxville. Anyhow......what do ya'll think about it?

There are 360 and IRA races up the road in Minnesota and western Wisconsin all summer long and they're well attended. Jackson runs a weekly 360 show not that far up the road from Knoxville and draws some of the same cars that occasionally race Knoxville. When it comes to promoting racing it's pretty much every promoter for themselves. As far back as I can remember there has always been another track not that far down the road that saw some success and wanted a piece of the pie.
Knoxville isn't the center of the racing universe. We've got open 360's tomorrow night with Mods and Crate Late Models and the WDRL and IRA Sprints on Friday and Saturday at Cedar Lake for their annual Masters. We're approximately 300 miles north of Knoxville but when you're talking 410 Sprints it's a small world and many of the IRA competitors are familiar names at Knoxville. Knoxville is a nice track and they have a huge annual event in August but look at the National Speedway Directory, there's plenty of other Saturday night tracks around for those of us who for whatever reason don't want to drive to Knoxville.
Some people like short tracks better than the big half miles. Others like 360's better than 410's or they like Mods and the other support divisions more than an all Sprint show. If I was owner of the ASCS I'd go ahead and make my schedule based on what was best for my guys regardless of any weekly tracks 100 miles away.

The series "owners" do not schedule the races.

I had problems with my DELL computer a couple of months ago and when I called tech support, the foreigner said the computer was under the name Mrs. Smith. He asked me if I was Mrs. Smith and I was so frustrated trying to talk too the bastard (was fifteen minutes into the conversation) I said YES, I am Mrs. Smith!
He then said, "Okay Mrs. Smith, what I need to know is....." then I just hung up.

Not to change the subject about ASCS/WoO. ..David i had the same problem when i called Dell support, could not understand them and could hardly hear them i guess i was talking to someone in India or Manila, i asked them if there was some one that talked the english that i could understand they hung up on me, then i finally got someone from there sales office in the U.S.A. and i told them there support people were the sh**s he agreed but said i better get use to it because that's the wave of the future with everything..

Back to the original premise of this string - who is to know which schedule came out first. Maybe the WoO scheduled against the ASCS race... but they probably didn't check.
With the other - I either just call back or keep asking for someone else until I find someone I can understand. I've actually commented to one person (India) that I appreciated the fact that I could understand him - and evidently, he could understand me.
I really resent this "out sourcing". It took a job away from a good friend who was technically brilliant... but now is in another field. I imagine these stories are all across the nation. For a while this intelligent man was drawing blood for a local blood bank. Now that's bad.

thank you...these assumptions that the world must stop to protect the promotion of one plantation owner over another is not only absurd but an afront to free enterprise. Coke and Pepsi are often sold in the same store...

Maybe this can be good, as this is the first time I remember them running a sprint show at Denison on their regular race night. Maybe they can make some new sprint fans there, and it can help everyone in the long run.
If this post isn't results, stories or something c
constructive, it isn't me!

I should add a PS to my previous post. Usually when these tracks that don't run Sprints weekly book a 360 special they don't drop very many if any of their weekly divisions. Unlike say for instance the Outlaws who demand only one support division so they're going to have the crowd there for their regular divisions. I'm not sure how many cars ASCSot has following them but I wouldn't expect very many cars running for 360 points at Knoxville to run with ASCSot instead. I'm unfamiliar with ASCSot other than a few names I have seen in the racing publications but plan on chasing them up to North Central in Brainerd next Wednesday.
What's the cutoff mileage to make another Saturday night Sprint show "OK" with the Knoxville crowd? IRA is probably within two or three hundred miles of K'ville almost every Saturday night. We've got the same thing going on up here with WDRL this week at the Masters. There are other big Late Model shows around the vicinity so the hard core fendered fans are in a tiz trying to figure out who's going to run where.

Dell is now selling laptops running on Linux Ubuntu which is a free, extremely stable open source OS. I run it on my wife's computer and it's rock solid, I check it every once in a while but in almost a year I haven't had to do any maintenance. If you're not a gamer and use your computer for internet, email and office applications IMHO it's the best way to go. There are also thousands of free open source specialty programs such as graphics, multimedia, programming applications, etc for the power user. The only thing about Linux is that it's not known as a gaming system but most people nowadays get a stand alone system such as Playstation, Xbox, etc for gaming anyways.

I ordered a new computer the other day. On Monday, I will drive 20 miles North to pick it up. If I ever have any trouble with it, I will throw it in the car and bring it back to them. Buying anything more complicated than a book or CD over the internet is not worth the trouble.
But, why are we talking about this on a WoO/ASCS discussion?

ok. I agree that it's best to do what is best in your own series for your own drivers. But I brought this point up for a reason. The ASCS National vs. Midwest show tonight in Denison, Iowa drew a whopping total of 19 cars. This a race that could have drawn more if scheduled on a weekend when the 360's were off in Knoxville. And that was pretty much my point. IF IT WAS POSSIBLE...and there isn't really a way to tell, but if they could have run this race on a sat. when Knoxville's 360's were off they (theoretically) would have had a larger # of race cars. I wonder what the tickets for that race cost. One would hope it wasn't 20 bucks. And I also hope for the fans sake that the race was really good.

AND IN LOOKING AT KNOXVILLE'S SCHEDULE...........the 360's were OFF NEXT WEEK!!!!!!!!
just does not make sense to me that promoters don't get together so that their races are the best they can possible be.

Boldicini (SP) raced at Knoxville, Andy Shouse is rumored to have quit racing, Bobby Sparks' wife (Darren Stewarts car owner) has become very ill so they didn't make the trip. Those are three drivers not there that I heard reasons as to why.

I hope that Andy Shouse hasn't quit ----
But I really hope that Bobby Sparks' wife is okay. Neat people. We're pulling for you.
From the reports - it sounded like the ASCoT show turned out to be better, even with fewer cars, than the Knoxville show.
That's why I have driven past a WoO show to go to an ASCS race. Much better format and much better racing with a helluva lot more passing.
Just my opinion... but an obvious one, for the most part...

yeah I can't disagree with that. ASCS shows are half as much and twice as good as WoO.
Although it ironically appears that Eric Baldacini had some success at Knoxville for it being his 1st or 2nd time there.
Yeah I can't believe Knoxville track workers didn't rise to the challenge a little bit more than they did.......I mean geez.......the race was to be aired on ESPN.
