Brett Miller records career best GSC finish in Medford
By Gary Thomas
Medford, OR - June 13, 2007... After a solid weekend with finishes of third and sixth, Chico youngster Brett Miller came back on Monday night and recorded his best career Golden State Challenge Series finish in his very first visit to the Southern Oregon Speedway. Brett and the Care Free Pools Racing team came into the Monday event in Medford, Oregon looking to carry the momentum from this past weekend, and did they ever.
Brett’s first time running the 1/3 mile track began with him qualifying fourth quick in the field aboard the Care Free Pools, Care Free Custom Graphics, Platinum Powder Coating, Wolfe Electric No. 1x. He then finished fifth in the opening heat to put him into the dash.
"The Catfish" started fourth in the six lap dash, but opening lap contact from another car left the 1x machine stopped on the inside of turn one. A yellow was thrown and Brett went to the work area. The Care Free Pools team took off the nose win on the JP’s Paint & Body Maxim because it was damaged in the altercation and Brett got back out onto the track where he went on to finish seventh.
Starting seventh in the 30 lap feature Brett moved up to sixth early on and ran a controlled aggressive race to move up a couple more spots to finish the contest in fourth. The 17 year-old did a great job to hold off some fast company as Willie Croft, Sean Becker and Stephen Allard were all breathing down his neck over the last few laps.
Brett’s previous best finish with the Golden State Challenge Series was a fifth which he accomplished at the Ocean Speedway in Watsonville.
The Golden State Challenge Series and 410 racing in Chico is dark this weekend, but Brett will be behind the wheel of a 360 sprint car in Calistoga on Saturday. The Golden State Challenge Series will start back up the following Saturday with its first ever visit to the American Valley Speedway in Quincy. The night before that, however, Brett and the team will compete at Silver Dollar Speedway in another evening of point race action.
