(Oxnard, CA. 3-19-2012)After last week's rain out, Ventura Raceway returns to action this
Saturday night March 24.On that night
we will be featuring five of our adult classes, in exciting oval track racing
at our Ventura County Fairgrounds facility.VRA 360 Sprints, VRA Senior Sprints, IMCA Modifieds, VRA Mod Lites and
VRA Go Karts will all be in action on Ventura Raceways highly competitive 1/5
mile oval.All the top drivers and teams
in these five classes will be on hand to get back into competition Saturday night.During the off season a great deal of new
dirt was added to the track giving it a new racing surface that has shown to be
very racy in our two previous night of action in 2012.
VRA Sprints return to action after a week off.On their last race night March 10, visiting
driver Mike Spencer took the 30 lap win in the first 2012 All Coast Challenge
Race.This Saturday night we are back to
the regular VRA Season with point leader Troy Rutherford leading the racers
into action.So far in the first two races
he has scored one win and a second place finish to lead Greg Taylor, Tom
Hendricks, Brian Camarillo John Nock and Clark Templeman III in the new
season's point race.These racers and
many more will race a full program of 10 lap heats and a 30 lap feature.Semi main events will also be run if needed.
VRA Senior Sprints also are back to continue their 2012
season with a full program of heats and a 20 lap main event.Most of the top seniors from 2011 are
expected to be here to continue the fast and furious action in this class for
over 45 year old drivers.Last year the
point battle was between Rob Kershaw, Clif Warren, Richard McCormick, Bruce
Douglass and Victor Davis.Opening night
winner Bruce Douglass will be back to try to make it two in a row after his win
on opening night March 3.He leads Clif
Warren, Victor Davis, Chris Meredith and Wally Pankratz in the 2012 point race.
IMCA Modifieds will also be on hand for their second race of
the new season.On March 10, their
opening night win went to visiting driver Robby Sawyer, with another visiting
driver Buck Cox in second. Gary Curtis took third with last year's runner up in
points Brad Prows taking fourth .Ventura's 2011 champion Aaron Rodarte and
brother 2010 champion Austin Rodarte both fell out after on track incidents
early in the event.They will be back
Saturday night to try to get their season off to a better start, along with
many other top IMCA Modified racers.
VRA Mod Lites will also be on the schedule Saturday
night.The Dwarf Car sized modified
racers have put on interesting races each time they compete.Kevin Alverson took the win in their opening
event on March 10.He will be back to
try to make it two in a row.
VRA Go Karts will open their season Saturday. They are an
added class to the original schedule as their original opener was rained out
last weekend.All the top drivers in
this division will be back to try to see who will take the series championship
at the end of the season in November.These racers will race on a special track in the infield of the raceway.
Admission prices for this event
are: $14.00 for Adults, $11.00 for Seniors, Military and Juniors with kids 12
and under free with adult admission.Pit
gates will open at 12 noon with warm-ups getting under way at 3:30 and racing
at 5:30.
