LARSON SET FOR SILVER CUP IN CHICO Elk Grove, California. March 5, 2012. Kyle Larson has reunited with the Finley Farms team of Jason and Scott Finley and will take on the top 360 sprint car drivers in Northern California this coming Friday and Saturday night at the opening race of 2012 at Chico’s Silver Dollar Speedway, the Silver Cup. The teaming of the Finley’s potent machine and Larson led to considerable success in a limited number of starts in 2011, as three victories, including an ASCS National win at Hanford, and the Northwest ASCS Speedweek championship followed the pairing.
Larson, now residing in Huntersville, North Carolina due to his NASCAR stock car racing commitments with Earnhardt Ganassi Racing and Rev Racing, is looking forward to trying out the newly reshaped track surface at Silver Dollar Speedway. The 2011 Gold Cup Champion will also look to get a head start on learning the characteristics of the new layout prior to taking on the World of Outlaws two weeks later, when he returns to the seat of the Stadelhofer Construction/ Kaeding Performance number 99.
The 19 year old Larson, the nation’s leading feature winner in open wheel racing in with 22 victories in 2011, including the Belleville Midget Nationals, all three USAC divisions of the Eldora Four Crown Nationals, and Oskaloosa, Iowa’s Ultimate Challenge for non-wing sprint cars, looks to build on his early season achievements of 2012. In January he scored a preliminary night feature win at the Chili Bowl in Tulsa, Oklahoma, before settling for third in the finale of the mega event, behind history’s top two CB competitors, the son and father duo of Kevin Swindell and Sammy Swindell.
Larson, nominated for Speed Channel’s Performer of the Year award, followed that up with triumphs in his first two appearances ever in stock car competition, as he scored feature wins at Florida’s New Smyrna Speedway during the just concluded Speedweeks in the Daytona area. Following his appearance at Chico this weekend, the youngster will make his NASCAR debut at the legendary Bristol Motor Speedway in Tennessee, as he takes to the track for the K and N Pro Series East event on March 17.
