We need to support all sprint car racing in Illinois. Let your local tracks/promoters know you will support them. We need some more nortern,il shows. I am tired of driving hundreds of miles to go see some racing. IRA Sprints are coming back to LaSalle August,19. Be there!!!

ASCS had Peoria on their schedule but it disappered?

Sprint Invaders at Peoria in June. We will be there to get our a%@ handed to us, but it will be really fun I think. There used to be some IRA backed shows at Wilmot. That is not that far away, of course I do not know where you are travelling from. I agree with you, we travel 220 miles one way to race almost every weekend. I would love to see a strong sprint club come closer to home. But most of them travel at the moment, and that makes it even harder to race with them.

Morris,Il. Good luck this season. Maybe we'll have to make the trip to Burlington, and will definitely check out Peoria.

MOWA seems to be making progress but still have to travel south a few hours.

Wilmot Raceway will have 410 Sprints most weekends and the IRA will be there 5-12, 5-26, 6-9, 7-21, and 8-18.

If you live in the Northern part of the state, in addition to the IRA race at LaSale which MOWA will support as a non-points race, MOWA will be racing at Peoria on Thursday July 26 as a part of our Sprint Week. And as was mentioned earlier, the IRA has several races at Wilmot and some other SE Wisconsin tracks. MOWA will also race at Plymouth, Indiana on September 1 which is in Northern Indiana, just south of South Bend.

Of course once you get South of Peoria, MOWA has a full schedule of races at places like Spoon River, Lincoln, Jacksonville, Macon, Quincy, Highland and Tri City in Illinois.

Hope to see you at the races.

I will be checking out some MOWA shows. I figured you guys would be at LaSalle but didn't see it on your schedule. I try to support all the local groups whenever possible, and try to round up as many people as I can to go along.. I'm just saying I wish there were more shows closer to my area.

Wilmot is still a couple hours drive for me, same with Springfield,Canton,Jacksonville,Peoria.etc.. When you are driving 2 hours to get there it makes for a long drive home or Hotel expenses. Maybe I need a camper.

You would think that with the population of the Chicagoland area there would be enough fans to support a weekly program.

A couple of years ago, I mentioned to one of the Fair board members at Wilmot, that having a tailgate/camping section would be of benefit to people that travel long distances. There is plenty of room, as it is on a Fairgrounds. I will try to see if this can be looked at again.

Yep, I could not agree with you more mbers 1. We travel from Bolingbrook and we used to race at Morris with the Midgets. I know all about having to travel too far to see or be involved in a race. The Peoria show for the Invaders should be a good show. We are going to try and run mostly invader races this year. Not because we are competitive there, but because they pay out enough to make the A that it is a little less painful for us to cover our travel expenses. Maybe in a few years we will be competent enough to race with MOWA. I think that they are putting on the kind of shows that may spark an interest in Sprint cars for the greater portion of Illinois. I know that most of the people in my neighborhood do not even have a clue what a Sprint Car is. We have had people ask us if our top wing is a solar panel! I find that amusing. Smile Good luck finding shows that are close enough to make the trip worth it. If you get any shows that Destini is running at, feel free to stop by and say hi.

We have been kicking around trying to go to Wilmot and race. Now that we have the 360 we may have to actually do so. I have heard that they have had a couple of good races there. We went there to see the Outlaws run a couple of years ago and it looks like a neat place.

I make it to Grundy a few times to watch the midgets but the car counts aren't what they used to be.Still fun to watch though. I will definately make it to the USAC show there and probobly a few others. I think they only run about 6 shows there.

I see Kankakee has a 410 scheduled but no sanctioning as of yet maybe they could do a 360show wth Sprint Invaders or ASCS.I know IRA used to run there but are cutting back on travel.

I will take you up on your offer and look you up at an Invaders show.Good luck this seasonSmile

An invader show at Kankakee would be awesome, but I am afraid that they would shy away from a show that required all of the Iowa folks to travel that far. But it would certainly be cool. What club is running the Kankakee show?..........Midget racing at Grundy was awesome in the late 1990's, but it has really headed in the wrong direction over the last five years. I go to one a season out there, but I find that I walk away disappointed more often then not. It is a shame, they have real potential.

Right now Kankakee has a TBD 410 Sprint Car show on their schedule for June 22 as they usually run a sprint car show that weekend to allow their late model teams to run the Summer Nationals shows. Last couple of years it has been a IRA show and it was a good show last year but the crowd sure was light. I would imagine they are looking for a cheaper alternative plus the IRA is scheduled to be at Oshkosh that night this year.

To me it would be a perfect fit for MOWA. Hopefully they can get that show on their schedule.

From what I heard, the track asked MOWA to replace the IRA show on account of a lower purse and MOWA declined to get in the game of stealing dates from other series just so the track could pay less to the drivers. I could be wrong though. Wouldn't be the first time.

That would be the correct thing to do on MOWA's part if that actually happened. Assuming that it did, good for them. Of course we all know what it means when we assume.

On the IRAsprints.com website there is a letter from the President of the club about their schedule.

He talks about how happy they are there are fewer Friday night shows and the ones they do have they don't have to travel very far.

I am sure a lot if those guys have jobs or buisnesses to run and its too hard to travel very far on Friday nights.

So I don't think they would be stepping on anyones toes but then I really don't know.

I don't know if this is true, but it would be a pretty classy act on behalf of MOWA if it is true. A club that respects the sport as well as the participants (regardless of a drivers loyalties) would be pretty cool in my book. So if, and if is the operative word here, if the reason that MOWA hadn't stepped in was for this reason, then they did the right thing. But who knows, it may have been because the IRA didn't want to travel that far on a Friday night.

sprinter79 correct me if i'm wrong but last years race at kankakee was made up of mostly ira drivers with some mowa drivers in there. most of the mowa drivers who showed up usually run the sprint invaders shows at jacksonville. i think most of those drivers will support jacksonville's sprint invader race because the track has been looking for someone to take over promoting duties, and a good strong car count for the sprint invader's race would help show possibe promoters it is worth the time. also supporting jacksonville speedway would be important because it was mowa's home track last year and most members are jacksonville regulars. jacksonville is the only track in illinois that ran weekly sprint shows and i believe the jacksonville regulars want their weekly racing back because some guys can't afford to travel. guys who can not afford to travel and the ira series not running i believe will hurt kankakee's car count. be interesting to see what happens. i could be wrong
