I went to 2 Turkey nights in the mid 90's at Bakersfield Speedway. Trying to remember, but I know Stewart won one, and I think Boat won the other...Very good crowds..Held there till Irwindale opened...What would be wrong with going back to Bakersfield??

The operators filed for Chapter Seven, which means liquidation of assets to pay off the bills.
From the FedCourt website: "A chapter 7 bankruptcy case does not involve the filing of a plan of repayment as in chapter 13. Instead, the bankruptcy trustee gathers and sells the debtor's nonexempt assets and uses the proceeds of such assets to pay holders of claims (creditors) in accordance with the provisions of the Bankruptcy Code. Part of the debtor's property may be subject to liens and mortgages that pledge the property to other creditors. In addition, the Bankruptcy Code will allow the debtor to keep certain "exempt" property; but a trustee will liquidate the debtor's remaining assets. Accordingly, potential debtors should realize that the filing of a petition under chapter 7 may result in the loss of property."
I'll float a spurious rumor: "Don will walk away from Perris, truck clay in from AZ, and set up shop in I-Dale." (Yeeeeeah.)
Doesn't sound like there are any angels in the wings, guys. Sad, sad, sad.
The demographics have changed radically since SoCal was "racing heaven" in the '60s. And so has the amount of competition for the fan dollar. One big taxicab race a year is evidently enough to slake the thirst.

i saw on a thread that the midgets didnt work to well at perris . i was there a couple of years ago when the midgets put on one hell of a show . and if it is track size they were talking about , the PAS does have an inner track . i would be very excited to hear that turkey night is coming to perris . but i also think the Thunderbowl would be fun also.
We need more sprint car racing at our home track.

If Don walked away from Perris, that would be a HUGE investment that he is walking from. That track was built on his dime...I like Tulare, and Kings, but I would enjoy seeing them back at Bako...BTW the LA market has INDY Cars coming back to Fontana this year!!

If I may join the wild speculation, I think the person that was referring to Ventura having problems meant to say that Turkey Night would be a problem at Ventura. Personally, I enjoyed the Turkey Night race there, fog and all. As far as Perris taking Turkey Night, they just had to have taken a bath the last time they hosted it. There was no one in the stands. And this was at a time when the sprint car crowds were big. Seems like they had a real big crowd the weekend before for the SCRA race and no one came back for Turkey Night. IIRC, there wasn't that many cars running at the end either. Looking back, I question if Perris has EVER had a crowd when the midgets were the featured division.
Anyone who can honestly say that they attended Turkey Night at Perris, raise their hand.

A historical note, the Turkey Night Grand Prix was not run in 1951, 1952, 1953 and 1954.

I was there and your description is spot on, the place was a ghost town.
Shame really, that race was not very good, but I have seen some outstanding midget races at Perris, it needs to be slick however.

I was at TN @ PAS & IIRC it was like 32 degrees below zero LOLLL !!!! that might have contributed to the low fan count ?

I say run it at Bakersfield and you will have 65 + cars and a great race track. And I do know if approached they would do it in a heartbeat. From the horses mouth

I don't think Bakersfield and Great Track have ever been used in the same sentence.

Bakersfield is a fantastic midget track, I have been to many great midget events there when the USAC Western States series was strong and car counts were always 25 plus. The concrete grandstand holds a lot of people, and the 32oz beers don't hurt either That event is a SoCal tradition and it would be a shame to see it move out of the area.
best midget track ever, Ventura. No if's and's or but's. A late afternoon start with the race finishing around 7pm would be the ticket.

I would like to see how the midgets would run at Victorville. Oh well, you can wish in one hand and S4!t in the other and we all know which hand will fill up first.

Bakersfield from a the stands is pitiful....worst seating ever & they never get a big show in before curfew. I too was at the PAS on Turkey Night......won't mention the weather cause as long as it's not raining, I don't complain. Boat & Griffin stunk up the race in Lawson's midgets before Griffin flipped. Lots of blown motors & maybe 9 or 10 cars running at the end. I think 50 laps @ the PAS would be awesome. The USAC guys were better than the sprints imho @ the PAS as the heats & feature were awesome. After the Midget heats the spint cars looked more like champ cars!

The statement from Irwindale read as follows,
"Irwindale, Calif. (February 13, 2012, 1:30PM ) - - The management of Irwindale Speedway today announced that the 2012 racing season has been canceled."

I think Irwindale will be up and running long before Thanksgiving. While I would love to see Turkey Night at The PAS (or another dirt track), I think it will be back at Irwindale. Not going to give up hope, though.
