Taken the mag for several years now and have never had a problem with any type of damage. A year or so ago one didn't show in the mail at it's usual time, 23rd to 26th for me. Waited a week or so and gave'em a call, sent me another. No complaints here.

I have had nearly every issue cover front and back look like a dog got it. Its the only one that it happens to. I talked to my post office and they started checking into it and found it came from the origional sender? Dont know but it pisses me off.... O and I live in Texas...

They probably all go through the Knoxville, Iowa post office first and the folks in Knoxville remember what Mr. Auld had to say about them last August.

My magazines have been coming torn up for over two years. Sometimes the covers are ripped up or even the last few pages may have been missing. I spoke with Doug Auld at Knoxville & asked him if they could do like Openwheel Magazine used to do & put a thin manilla sleeve over them. He acted as if I had lost my mind to even request anything of the sort. I'd even be willing to pay a little more for the subscription to to get my magazine in one piece.

Hey everyone...
I know it is frustrating when the magazines arrive without the covers or with damage done to them. We get a lot of magazines at our house and at least one a week is damaged - usually Time. We do hear from time to time from subscribers who have their covers ripped off due to the USPS sorting machine and we usually try to send a new copy out to them. I know that a lot of readers, like myself, like to save a copy of FlatOut or Sprint Car & Midget for their collections and like them to be in mint condition or close to it. So, if you get a damaged FlatOut and would like a new one to get it signed by the cover story (Fred Rahmer and Lance Dewease for the issue just going to press) or just want a decent copy, call the office at 800-536-5277 and they can send you a new one. We can't promise it will get there perfect every time but we can try to make it up to you if it arrives in awful condition and you really want it to be perfect.

What a novel idea, taking care of your customers (subscribers) to make sure they are happy with your product and offering a replacement at no cost. I think you might have hit upon something very unique Mr. Zoch.

My dad has been subscribing to Sprint car and midget magazine for years and I would bet maybe a handful have arrived at his door with little or no damage. The rest of them look as though they have been run over several times, with a few showing up in the Opps, we're sorry plastic bags. He gets several other magazines a month as well and those show up in perfect shape, so someone at the post office really hates sprint cars.

"Look everyone, I found the last dinosaurs who actually subscribe to
paper magazines.
I should get a photo of one to show my 4-year-old when he asks what a
magazine was. I can tell him about how we used to read a recap from
the August Knoxville Nationals in October. Then most of us got smart and
stopped paying money to receive very old news."Nice, a "cyber-snotnose"! I bet you drive around yakking on a cell phone, or text while driving...

I'm surprised you're not bitchin' about not knowing the results of the races that haven't been run yet.

My Sprint Car & Midget comes shredded nearly half the time. Can't remember ever having a problem with my FlatOut.

I am positive that most of you have never been to a bulk mail center before... I spent many a night there getting the amazing imbeciles that work there to even do simple math or come within a half a block of caring just a tiny bit about the work that they are paid DAMN GOOD to do... It will amaze you that you get anything in your mailbox at all! You be amazed also at what you were supposed to have gotten and never did or will...
If SC&M or Flat-Out were to put thin plastic sleeves over each magazine to protect them a bit more from the USPS, the postage would damn near triple..
I have been in the printing business for damn near 40 years and can guarantee you that books will never make it off of a production line with covers missing or torn. The stitcher or perfect binder would reject it.
Is it SC&M or Flat-Out's problem? Nope.. Bitch at the USPS... and watch them laugh...

Not sure why you picked my post to quote, but....oh well. I'm not at all blaming SC&M or FlatOut. I just figured SC&M gets processed by a different facility than FlatOut does. I've gotten replacements from SC&M too. Just got tired of calling every other month to ask for one.

Printers, for one! I'd hate to see the printed word disappear anytime soon, but, things like the USPS are not helping this....
