A look back at the 2011 King of the West 410 Sprints Royal Court

Driver Number 10- Former World of Outlaw regular "Flyin" Brad Furr

Rio Vista, CA – January 6, 2012…Returning to the 410 Sprint Car scene full time this past season was former World of Outlaw regular Brad Furr and when all the dust had settled the Stockton, California driver rounded out the top-10 in the KWS standings.

After running part time for the last handful of years, Furr committed to the full Golden State King of the West 410 Series schedule in 2011 and despite not quite having the kind of campaign he wanted, the veteran driver seemed to get stronger as the season went on.

“Well we would have definitely liked to finish higher up in the points, but it is what it is,” commented Furr, who competed in all but one race this past season with KWS. “We had a good time though and it was fun to get back
out on the road with the 410 and visit so many different tracks.”

During the season Furr brought home a trio of top five finishes, with his best outing coming on August 5 at the Ocean Speedway. That night saw him win a heat race and then jump into the lead of the main event ahead of Tim Kaeding. He proceeded to lead the first 12 laps and eventually scored a second place finish to Kaeding at the conclusion of the race.

“We have a lot of laps at Ocean Speedway over the last few years so I think that kind of played into our favor on August 5,” said Furr, whose career wins span from coast to coast and down under. “It was a good night for us even though I would have liked to get the win. These races are always tough though and you have to be on the top of your game every night.”

In his career Furr has captured five main event victories with the World of Outlaws Sprint Car Series, scoring a highest point finish of eighth in 2002. In addition to his Outlaw wins the 35-year-old has also claimed multiple triumphs in Australia, including four with the World Series Sprintcars.

Furr, a father of two, has also won other big races such as the Pacific
Sprint Fall Nationals at the Silver Dollar Speedway in Chico and the annual
Cheaters Day race held in the Midwest. He once also swept all five days of
Northwest Speedweek in Oregon and Washington.

“Whenever you get out on the road it throws a different kind of challenge at you and there’s definitely some stout competition out here with the King of the West Series,” he explained. “I really have to thank my dad, our entire crew, Ray Scheidts Electric, Sander Engineering and everyone that supported us this year.”

That photo of Brad was taken at the GP/DBj race last year that Peter Murphy won. The track ended up being really good that night....as you know Gary, if you have to scrape a lot of mud at the beginning of the night the track usually stays good for the night. I thought the track prep at Chico improved last year compared to the previous couple of years!

Mud be Flyin!

It did improve for sure at Chico and they've put in a lot of hard work up there during the off season getting the track shaped better, among other things. Hoping for a great year at SDS. Dennis Gage and Troy Hennig are great people and are working their tails off.

That is good to know....I love Chico! I am happy to see that Silver Dollar is improving and their hard work will definitely be noticed!
