Elk City Speedway under New Promotion for 2012!
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE – Midwest City, Oklahoma – January 4, 2012 - For the third year in a row, Elk City Speedway in Elk City, Oklahoma will see a new promoter for the western Oklahoma track. But unlike before, the new promotion team is looking at bringing back those cars that have set idle for the past years and have already locked in their weekly pay for all divisions that will be competing weekly during the 2012 race season.
Local racers and oil businessmen Kenneth Bonner, Jr. and Calvin Bonner, owners of Triple B Oil Field Services in Elk City, have signed a contract with the city to promote the dirt track races at the three-eighths mile oval this season.
"Something had to be done to get the racing out here back where it should be," stated Calvin. "There are a lot of cars out here in western Oklahoma just sitting and we decided to take on the challenge of promoting this year."
Among the classes that will be competing are USRA type modifieds, IMCA type southern modifieds (without the claim), factory stocks, super stocks, bombers and funn stocks.
The crew will be expanding the pit area, relocating the scales and have already purchased a couple push trucks as well as several track equipment to work the track.
A rarity by today's standards, the pay scale for each division has also been posted. The modified division will pay $600 to win and $100 to start, southern sport modifieds $400 to win and $50 to start, factory stocks $250 to win, super stocks $275 to win and bombers $200 to win. The funn stocks feature winner will receive a trophy.
The track will race every Saturday night from April through October with several two-day specials lined up. It all begins on Saturday, April 14, 2012 with a car show at noon followed by an open practice session and play day at 3:00 PM. The next and final play day will be held on Friday night, April 20th before kicking of the 2012 race season the next night beginning at 6:00 PM, the standard time for all races to start each week.
There are three, two-day events scheduled throughout the year and after a year absence, the Park City, Kansas based National Championship Racing Association southern sport modified division will make a return to the speedway with date to be announced.
