Dad and I are planning on going for the first time on Saturday for the finale. Don't have tickets. I have heard that you can always walk up and just buy pit passes and they are pretty much unlimited. Is this true? Is there any preparation we should do as far as securing a ticket/ pit pass?

Also, does anyone recommend anything like, glasses for dust, or a breathing mask? Looking for any insight from Chili Bowl regulars. Thanks.

Yes, you can buy a pit pass no problem. Also, there are ALWAYS grandstand tickets at face value sold in front of the building as well. As for breathing mask, its all up to you and your needs or preference. You see some fans with them (some for necessity) but as much as there are fumes in the building, most don't wear them. You defiantly wont needs protective glasses. You will totally enjoy this experience!

I disagree with KOP about not needing protective glasses, at least at times. Most of the time no, but occasionally depending on where your seated, the dust can be pretty bad. I would have a pair of safety glasses, just in case. Also, if your seats are low in the area between turns 3 and 4, the clods can be a hazard at times. Better to be safe than sorry.

For the most part a pit pass lets you watch it on the big screen TV. Pit viewing is very limited if at all. Watch this message board for people selling tickets also.

I've never really had any problems breathing , but my eys might be irritated a bit from the fumes watching a feature race. I'd like to think (I always forget) about getting some safety glasses that tend to seal out the fumes , and not fog up.

Attended my first last year with dad. Got tickets in turn 3, about 4 rows up. Dad had recently had reconstructive surgery on his nose from cancer, you can guess what happened. He got tagged between the eyes and it swoll up like a golf ball. The fumes and dust

are not a problem for the heats and early races, the ventilation can keep up.

The feature on Saturday is long enough that it gets pretty smoky and dusty.

Safety glasses and a cheap dust mask in your pocket are a good idea. Also some groceries to

avoid getting raped at the concession stands! Great racing, Enjoy!

Roger is correct for the areas he addressed. Im accustomed to the main grandstand in turns 3/4 not on the lower end. In thinking about the front stretch, you might want a helmet at times.

Jeff, the only thing you need to take to Chili Bowl is a roll of toilet paper..cause your going need it with all of the excitement.

I recommend ear plugs too. As much or if not more than eye protection.

Toilet Paper has many uses...tear off a sheet or two roll it up and stuff it in either your ears or nose, or the combination. It also serves well when you Poop yourself after seeing all the great Drivers and the Action.
