Not necessarily sprint connected but we have had discussions on this topic a few times in the past. How big some are, who gets the money, are they legal and stuff along those lines.

Last night I listened to and heard that the 50-50 draw at the World Junior Hockey game in Edmonton was $84,000.00, I about fell off my couch and laughed out loud at the same time. If we crazy Canucks like something almost as much as hockey, it's gambling and I speak from experience, believe me. This amount from a crowd of about 16,000 with lots of kids in attendance is truly amazing, our economy must be a lot better than I thought. The winner it turns out is a scout/executive with the LA Kings who got booed quite loudly when they announced that he was from Toronto, of course....

Happy New Years in advance to all, I'll be at the local horse racetrack. There are 3 good bands playing in the building next door so I do have an excuse for going on this night, lol....

Hey Mike, happy holidays! I hope there is no frosted donut stand at the party, you may run over someone getting there first Smile= Hell Gaylor probably would too.

My Wings are still playing solidly despite the fact that they are old for another decade!

Would love to talk with you in Volusia in February!

Macster, living in the land of donuts (A Tim Horton's is one block over and a Country Style Donuts one block the other way) I don't really go there, heck I've never had a cup of coffee in my life or I might be there constantly. When I think of Volusia a couple of things come to mind, those donuts are certainly the first thing and the coldest I have ever felt in my life (used to live in Edmonton, ALB. check that out on a map) was at a Volusia race back in the mid 90's before they switched the tracks around is the other.

Your Wings have lots of talent but the play-offs is all about grinders and goaltending aka the Boston Bruins. My Flyers are playing well but I wonder about their heart come May, since they traded away the soul of the team in Mr. Richards. All the very best to you and your family in the New Year, say Hi and give a hug to that Gaylor dude, a true friend everybody would love to have.......

I find that figure really amazing .... if the crowd was 'lots of kids in attendance' say 15% that would drop your amount of adult attendees to about 13,600 and lets say that 10% of those (like me don't buy 50-50 tickets) that takes you down to about 12,000 buyers.

Assuming the 50-50 was 84 grand to the winner (not the gross sales.)

That would mean those 12,000 buyers averaged spending about $14.00 per for their tickets.

I just am amazed at that kind of an average .... not that I am saying it didn't happen .... just shows you I guess why casinos are killing other entertainment venues and how they pay for all their give-aways, fancy buildings and furnishings.

But then you do have Stephen Harper & his Conservative Party running your country so yes your economy is going to be better .... no .... make that WAY better than ours.

At three tickets for $10.00 it adds up pretty quick. At the first Jets game this year against Montreal(Jets 1st game since coming back to Winnipeg)the 50/50 was around the $45,000 take home. Lots of crazy people spending money. The average 50/50 draw at the games is around $35,000 . The good thing is its tax free winnings.

All our Lotto, Casino and Horse Race winnings are not taxed up here, even the $50 Million one from last night. Azteca, those numbers are accurate, just a little hard to believe, throw in the free health care and this ain't too bad a place to live.....

we raced at Burlington, a back about 1995. The 50-50 tickets was to go 50% to driver fund and 50% to ticket buyer. Well the track never got a gambling permit. IRS says you donate all to a charity or pay taxes on all of it. We got a $25.oo from point fund at banquet. Some guys tore $25.oo checks up and thru them on floor and walked out. This is wat I remember of it.

Ummmm don't you mean no charge health care rather than 'free health care' ???

I can't imagine the doctors, nurses, receptionists, clerks, aides, administrators down to the maintenance workers and all that it takes to run clinics, hospitals, labs and offices do it out the goodness of their hearts.

Somebody some where in Canada is paying all those wages, expenses and overhead I would have to think.

And I can imagine if an American showed up as an undocumented alien in Canada the welcome mat wouldn't be out for free health care and treatment like it is (by law) here in the States.

Illegal's and uninsured's here just go the emergency room and know they must be treated.

That treatment is paid for by those of us paying thousands a year to play by the rules (buying our own health policies.)

What if the laws made them do the same thing on collision insurance for our vehicles or peril insurance for our homes??

Free 'treatment' (for repairs) ??? how many of us would carry collision on our high dollar cars or trucks or wind, fire and hail on our homes ??

Insurance is gambling ... sometimes you win (paid claims)...sometime you lose ..(no claims)

Just like the big banks, AIG and 2 of the big 3 car companies ...they took their chances ... and LOST ...so we (the taxpayers) bailed them out too ...just like we do the health care unisured.

Privatize the profits ...socialize the losses ....it's a great gig if you can get it.

You are EXACTLY right .... live in this country (Canada) LEGALLY and it's free.....unfortunately in the USA ..... just show up at any hospital and they MUST treat you ....no proof of citizenship or alien status can be required.

Wouldn't be fair if your option was beer for $12.00 a case if you opt out of your health care system ...or $35.00 a case to be in it ... then have the $12.00 a case buyer show up at your E.R. and by LAW have to be treated (free of charge).... Canada enforces their health care mandate by making ALL that use it pay something ..sometime ..somewhere unlike ours where those that pay ...(insurance or out of pocket) pay for the HUGE percentage that pay NOTHING and are ENTITLED to free health care.

Estimates range in the 40% area (average of 4 out of 10 E.R. patients have no way financially or insurance to pay for these visits) of uninsured in this country using E.R. for their health care for things as minor as colds, tiny 2 or 3 stitch cuts or abrasions, a child running a fever etc....etc... rather than going to a walk in clinic like those of us that are insured or pay out of pocket.

So out of every $1,000 billed by emergency rooms ... $400 is never collected from the user (patient) ...to me that extrapolates down to my insurance premiums are 40% higher than they should be as those services must be collected for some how.

Our premiums cost me almost 10 grand last year ... what could I have done with a extra 4 grand in savings last year ??? or 20 grand over 5 years??

To those of you on here that pay either thru your employer (still was your money ...your employer could pay that to you if not paying it for insurance) or a private policy direct out of your pocket payment look at your premiums and take 40% of that and imagine that in your pocket this last year or the last 5 years.

IMO, there is zero chance that an insurance carrier would have 40 percent lower premiums. even if every penny was collected.. That just seems like wishful thinking.

I think your long-winded ranting and raving about all the people getting free health care is highly misleading. When I was in my early 20s, I worked at several different jobs and didn't have health insurance. Thank goodness I never had a major illness or injury during that time. But I did have to make a couple doctor visits, and the bill sure as hell didn't say "Free" on it. Where were you 15 years ago? I should have returned every bill I got and just wrote on there that I want the "free" healthcare that Azteca says people without health insurance get. LOL

I guess I just look at it differently. Hopefully, you are never in a position where you have to see a doctor and don't have health insurance through an employer or paying for it out of pocket.

UPDATE, on Saturday Nights Draw at the game between Canada and the USA the winner took home $147,000.00 which is still less than the $180,000.00 the winner took home from the Draw between these two teams at the final in Saskatoon, SK two years ago. The pricing is likely the key to this deal, $5 per ticket or 3 for $10 or 10 for $20, I guess most people are dropping a $20. I still haven't found and didn't catch what last night's number was but it was Canada - Russia and the place was packed so I can only imagine....

I wonder what the Chili Bowl will produce and I also wonder if that pricing would make a difference in sales, it sure appears to be that way up here.

Stubb, it kills me to say that about the Bruins but they work hard and go hard on every shift, like my old school Flyers, not todays version. They may even have a tiny bit more talent that I give them credit for but watch out for honeybuns Hawks, they have a lot of talent up front and on defense but nowhere near the goaltending so I doubt they could beat the Bruins come play-off time.

I found last nights total for the 50 - 50 in Calgary and it was only $126,000.00 so the white collar folks are cheaper than the blue collar Edmontonians, so it seems.

Enjoy the Chili Bowl Stub, I would like to get there one year and actually watch the whole show instead of run a booth, not likely to happen tho'. Take It Easy....
