What is the status of the UNOH Nat's at Volusia in Feb, has anyone heard any updates? I've spoken with 2 separate locals today from 2 different parts of Florida, and they both told me they had heard that Volusia is currently closed for ALL racing. The track website does show that the owner had personal difficulties that resulted in the cancelation of the final few nights of regular racing in November, but also states that other special races will have news posted when available.
I was also informed that the owner has since passed away. If this is fact, may he rest peacefully.
I personally think that the Dirtcar Nats would go on anyway, with temporary management. If the track is in fact closed, I would think there would have been more "public" news about the situation. I'd hate to have plans set in place only to find out I've got tickets to a race that won't take place.
So my question is a simple one.: Will the show go on as scheduled, or do I need to look into other plans?
Bye bye, Hardhat!

Volusia is our local track... While I just work on the car the way I understand it is DIRTcar has owned the track for the last couple of years or so and had been running the local shows until this past season. They began leasing it to Ken Sands at the beginning of the season and he was the one who was running the local shows only. I don't really know what happened to him other than we had way more than the usual number of rainouts. You'd think in Florida we would have a lot but really we don't... Anyway, I don't see the failure of the regular season impacting any special events during Speedweeks. All Speedweeks races are run by DIRTcar and not the local promoter so I wouldn't expect them to be listed on the Volusia track website under upcoming shows, and as you’ve found, they’re not.

Last I heard a couple weeks ago from a WRG employee is that their promoter from Lernerville Speedway Gary Risch is in charge of running Volusia for Speedweeks and has been down there getting things ready since early November.

The Dirt people will run the winter series of shows as in the past. They are attempting to find someone to lease the track for the regular season.

so let me get this straight. The largest sanctioning body in the US for dirt racing has to find someone to lease the track that they own??
Are they not capable of making it turn a profit other than during Speedweeks?

It is likely a matter of not wanting the headaches of running a weekly show, especially in lieu of the past history of the track.
