I know back in 1991 had to get a shaft cover like the one in that pic from Blumethal's Tranny in OKC for my In/Out Box on my ol 100" car,it was a special order and it ran $176 + shipping, remember it well, when your throwout bearing goes bad , it will sure do a number and eat up that shaft cover , felt lucky it did not get into the shaft or it would of been a couple hundred $$$ more from what the Tranny guy told me.

Brian ,do you know if it works???.

I don't know, it's not mine.

Looks like it ought to though!

Kinda looks like one of those 'insiders secret- poor mans in out boxes". You know, one of those deals where everybody spends $100s of dollars on a piece out of a catalog, and the guy in front of the pack uses a $20 piece out of a tractor that works as good.

The first slider coupling that I ever saw was in the Karl Kinser Sprint car in 1979. It was a homemade device with an all thread bolt bent for the shifter arm and a 3 inch bolt welded on the end for a t-handle. that car did not look like much if it was not needed to go fast it wasn't on it but mand could run.

I had to baby the Ram Clutch for about 4 races at the end of the 91 season to finish it out that year, started car in gear to prevent from having to use the clutch as it really would grind on it when we did have to.

Trust me when I say I tried to look for that $20 piece over that winter of 91/92 , Auctions , Salvage Yards and yep even Implement places ,but no luck and another racer tell me at an Auction that winter to go try Blumenthal's Tranny shop in OKC and they could get it and for a price which was my last resort and had to shell out the loot, sure was tough back then as that was a big chunk out of the budget and learned from that point on it is cheaper to replace a throwout bearing.

I know of one modified drover/owner in Tulsa in the 70s who did more with less than any other driver at the track. He did not have a sponsor and ran every body else's left overs and worn out parts. He finished in the top 5 in points at the old track one season and passed Larry Wilson at a NCRA race at the big track one year. I got to be pretty good Friends with him and he told me some of his secrets He only had hi gear in the transmission he did not have a clutch. I asked him how he got the engines started, he just put it in gears hit the started the car wold chug and move and the engine would start. At a NCRA show he ran a 4 barrel Carb and the inspectors puffed the top 5 finishers, he said that when they came to him he just took the float bowl of the carb and put a rag over and they never noticed. At the NCRA race Larry Wilson probably had more money in his engine than this drover had in his whole car He never was protested and always finished in the top 10 with what he had.

I remember a guy back in the 90's who would always start his car with the starter and never use the clutch , for a long time some thought he did not have one , he did , was checked one night , just did'nt use it ,said it cost to much to replace discs, he figured it up and about 2-3 noses a season on starters were cheaper than clutch discs , which is what he said he went through in about a season. Then they came up with those $200 GPE Racing Starters and they would start a semi truck to rolling.

We had one similar to that. It had a forward and reverse and was stamped NANCE.
