I think Jerry told me at a KARS meeting that the photo of Jay, Jerry & Mrs. Wilson was the only photo he has seen. To bad I didn't take a class on photography. But it still preserves history no matter how bad it is. It was of Jay winning the 1st Chet Wilson Memorial Race @ 81 Speedway. How many Chet Wilson Memorial races was there after that? All the greats were there that night. It was like a non NCRA race.

I remember those early Chet Wilson Memorial races very well. Unfortunately after 1980
I was was in school at KU, and was never back in the fall when they typically raced them.
I remember at the first one, or maybe the second, Jerry brought out the "Offy Killer" before
restoration and Frankie Lies hot lapped it. It was very exciting for me to see "Big Red" on
the track, and Frankie seemed very excited to hot lap the historic racer. I didn't see the car again until
it was restored in 1996 at Del Mar, California. It was a special moment for me, to be so far from
home, and see my favorite race car restored and looking incredible.
Many of you may have been at OKC in 1972 when the "Offy Killer" won its last race with
Grady Wade behind the wheel. It was a special moment to see this 15 year old car beat
up on all the new state of the art sprinters. Grady beat a field that included, Thad Dosher,
Ray Lee Goodwin, Chuck Amati, Dale Reed, and Dick Sutcliffe among others.
It was a great moment, and when I think of Chet and Grady I always remember that race.
