J. W. Mitchell Sr. born September 16, 1921 in Holtville, California, to W. C. and Clara Mitchell, died November 29, 2011 in Yorba Linda, California. JW was married to Wilma "Billie" Hubbs. JW died of natural causes with family present in Yorba Linda, California. He is survived by son; Nick and Kim Mitchell, grandchildren; Geoff Edward and Kory Lea Blum, Erika Ann-Marie Mitchell, Samantha J. Mitchell and Matthew Jay Mitchell, great grandchildren; Mia Lea Blum, Ava Hope Blum, Kayla Marie Blum and Audrey Faith Blum.
JW attended Colton Union High School, Colton, California. He served in the United States Navy as a Seabee in Point Barrow, Alaska. JW worked in the Construction industry and retired at the age of 55 from Matich Corporation. He lived on his treasured boat the "Four Queens" in the Long Beach harbor for 22 years. He traveled Mexico and Alaska with his family and crew. JW raced open wheel Midget race cars at the Orange Show Stadium in San Bernardino, California and through out Southern California during the late 1940's. JW was an avid fan of his family auto racing endeavorers.
JW Mitchell will be laid to rest on Wednesday, December 7, 2011 at Montecito Memorial Park. Visitation will be Tuesday, December 6, 2011 from 4 - 8 pm at Montecito - Valley View Chapel, with Service on Wednesday December 7, 2011 at 1:00 pm, burial to follow.
