Dwayne Robuck was not re elected. Over 30 years on the board. I would like to thank my father for all the years of service. Also thanks to all of his supporters and friends!

What does the rest of the board have to do with?

Not sure what that last post is saying. think some words were left out. The board runs the place, hires the people who are the front line people like Toby and John. Opinions are like a body part, we all have one on every subject. Doesn't make it right or wrong.

But why are they responsible for what happened ? I think I know how the systems works just why was the board a bunch of dumb ---- . He was not fired ,he was not elected . I think it was sad too but what did the board have to do with it

The Fairboard does not elect their own members.

ANYONE, that is a farmer, landowner, or resident of Marion County is elgible to vote in the Fairboard election, they just have to sign up 30 days prior to the election at the Fairgrounds.

I've voted for the last 10 years or more. Easy, simple, and the meeting lasts about an hour or so.

I'm sure Dwayne will still be around in some capacity at the Raceway unless he decides he doesn't want to be.

I don't think so.

I think that a mojority of the VOTERS are ready for some "new blood" on the Fairboard. Out of the 24 members, I would venture to say that I can count on 1 hand (and I don't need all 5 fingers) the # of Fairboard members under the age of 55 (maybe even 65). And even then, the youngest is more thank likely in his mid/upper 30's.

Dwayne has been a Fairboard member for over 30 years, as well as a track official, and car owner. I have a great deal of respect for everything Dwayne has done over the years, but I'm sure many voters feel that we now have a new promoter (Toby Kruse) and unless changes are made on the Fairboard, he won't be allowed to make the changes necessarry to increase the weekly fan count, the car count, etc. which is what he was hired to do.

Changes on the Fairboard will continue every year, as many of the Fairboard members aren't as involved as they should be (if I remember correctly, each Fairboard member is to work 2 days per month on improvements at the fairgrounds). If I was venturing a guess, I'd say maybe 4 or 5 actually do (and they aren't the ones that have been on the board for years and years).

The Fairboard has more responsiblities than just the races....

Their main objective is to put on the county fair (which has always been very poor considering how much $$$ they have at their disposal compared to other counties in the area), upkeep of the facility, and then the races.

With the recent hiring of Toby Kruse, they should now be able to focus ALL of their attention to the Fair and the facilities, as they hired Toby to be the GENERAL MANAGER, he should be making all of the business decisions regarding the Raceway, because (IMO) when it comes down to it, it's his job to make sure the place is making $$$. If that means that they have a few more IMCA shows, Late Models, Concerts, Revivals, Monster Trucks, Motorcycles, whatever, then so be it. I think Toby's leadership will lead to great things in the near future, and if they can keep him there we may see a SOLD OUT Nationals again in less than 5 years.

I finally agree with Vande77 on something. Dwayne and his family have put a tremendous amount of time and effort into the Knoxville Raceway. Thank you Dwayne , I hope you can stay on as an offical. With that said I think the fairboard is still a joke. Paintboss asked if he made someone mad, the fairboard is like an episode of a reality show. Someone is always bitching about something. Vande was right when he said there is far to many of them that don't really do anything. I know of 2 guys that served on the board for years and got so fed up with the b.s. that when their term was up they didn't run again and have never again set foot on the fair grounds. That has got to tell you something. They do need to get more active members and/or let Toby do his thing. And as far as the fair goes, it is a disgrace to the county but that is a complaint for another forum. Thanks to Dwayne and the other few that do take it serious. As for the rest, good luck on being re-elected, you might have to find another table to find money under. Oh and you might have to buy your own truck next time. Smile

Sad that all the money from racing goes to put on a fair that doesnt make money. With a bleak economy I hope you give Toby a few years to make the place better. With everyone around the country cutting jobs I would as a fair board cut the fat and get people in there that do there fair share.

Maybe you should run for the board and straighted the board out as it looks like you know the answers and you get a truck right

Which one or ones got a truck?

They get money under the table WOW I did not know they were that lucky

You know that you are calling them thieves right

I do not like some of the things they do but not quite ready for the thief thing

Only two over the years out 24 is not all that surprising in any board

Maybe you mis-understand. The $$ made from the races DOES NOT go to put on the fair.

Therein lies the problem with the Fairboard. Thier #1 priority is supposed to be the FAIR, not the Races.

I LOVE the races, and already can't wait for 2012 to get here, but I know that there has been a strong push from our neighbors to the East to move the Fair to their town over the last 10 years.

The way that the Fairgrounds and Raceway are set up, the Fair MUST be held at the Fairgrounds in order for the Raceway to continue to operate.

The only reason the Raceway is exempt from multiple city ordinances is because it's on the Fairgrounds. If the Fair is "moved" to another location, the Raceway has a multitude of code violations that would have to be fixed or could cease to exist. Many of which are standard Safety issues (handrails in the walkways of the grandstand for example).

Who cares if they move the fair!? It would be better if they did upgrade the safety issues!? You have some very different views on things!! but everyone has/deserves there own opinion!!

Never said they didn't.

But a cease to the Fair on the Fairgrounds also means a cease to racing at the track per the way the lease is written...

Edit:

Forgot to mention, many of the upgrades required to meet code are out of reach financially (ALL GRANDSTANDS and RESTROOMS would have to be REPLACED), even for Knoxville Raceway...

Vande77 - Shouldn't you be working instead of lurking the message boards?

Or is that what the office people do during the day?

I would not be concerned with who is on or off of fairboard. I would be more concerned if they have new golf carts and ATVs for next year - I've never seen any of those athletes walk anywhere.
Still love husets

Just before work, during my break (times vary) and during my lunch.
