I don't know how many of you know who this is, but I saw a documentary about him last night, it was AWESOME!!!! Talk about an F1 driver with a sprint car driver mentality, that would be Ayrton Senna.

I saw it the day after it premiered in Kansas City. It is such a great film that should be seen by everyone who is a fan of any motorsports. Senna was the ultimate driver and that documentary proves it. I was so glad I was able to see it in theatres.

It's a very good movie that will introduce a whole new audience to non-race fans. It started out at the indie film art houses and will end up with an Oscar.

Ayrton Senna's story is told entirely through news clips and video footage....nothing new was filmed for the picture.

Jack, Search "Senna Movie" on facebook, that's where I found where it is being shown. I had to go to an Indie movie theatre in Dayton, Ohio to see it, the Neon Movies. The previews were a bit different than usual!

Be careful buying the DVD or Blu-ray movie, make sure it is for region 1 for DVD and region A1 for Blu-ray.

For the non-Facebook crowd, www.sennamovie.com will give all the show times for theaters and release dates for DVD's. As of Oct 10th they do not have a US release date set for DVD but it is out now in UK format.

My Dad used to work for Honda when I was a kid. They brought him to the plant with a couple cars to sign autographs. He fired up a car and did laps in the parking lot and all up and down the main plant driveway. It was awesome, he did some serious doughnuts with smoke rolling off that Marlboro car.

I got to shake his hand and he autographed my model car. He was very very cool, and seemed like just a normal dude living his dream and loving it.

One of my neatest memories as a kid.

as I remember it Senna was said to never make a mistake. He was probably the best F 1 racer ever. Senna died when the stearing shaft broke. In Italy theydo things different. There was talk of an investigation and the head mechanic being charged with manslaughter. THEY HAD CHANGED THE SHAFT AND IT BROKE IN THAT PLACE.

Something definitely broke since the car quit turning and went into the wall. Plus Roland Ratzenberger died in a crash during practice the day before.

A reminder of what these drivers risk to fulfill their passion. A humongous thanks to all you racers for having the courage to entertain us on the weekends!

Watched it last week on Netflix. Great show of a great racer. It was very cool as the top driver in the top division in the world was asked, who was the driver you enjoyed racing against the most , he talked about a guy he raced in go carts years before. Top guy at the top of his game remembering where he came from. Great story.

i watched it on netflix, great show really shows how messed up F-1 is with there team orders. as crappy as nascar is. It still ain't as bad. How about the crashes and showing the drivers bodies lying there. desturbing.

I agree it was a great movie. I watched it on Netflix.

The thing that I noticed the most was how un-safe the cars were. You always think about F1 being all about technoligy. However, the cars that he was driving at the start of the movie were auful. The driver was sitting too high. The car did not protect him. The seats did not enclose him corretly, and they had little to no head rest. It was amazing that the two deaths happened with safer cars than at the beginning of the show.

It would be interesting to watch the Indy cars from that era to see if they were as bad as the F1 cars were. Or maybe our standards have risen so much since then.

JonR, I think Indy cars were just as bad back then. That was the era, at least in the 80's, when the driver was way too far forward, lots of drivers breaking their legs in front impact crashes. I remember may wrecks with the drivers legs hanging out of the front of the car, Danny Ongais being the most infamous in my opinion.

And that trend actually carried well into the '90's. Nelson Piguet destroyed his ankles in '92 in qualifying for the 500. Jeff Andretti did the same in the race in '92 as well. One of the most disturbing wrecks that I have seen was in the '95 Indy 500 when Stan Fox belted the wall in turn 1 at the start. Fox's crash ended his racing career. The safer technology came along really late in racing at almost every level. Even Nascar did not clamp down until after 2000. Unfortunately in racing we wait until we kill people to think about driver safety. It has always been that way. Senna was AWESOME in F1 and I can not wait to see the film.

I think that you are correct, and if I remember correctly Mr. Ratzenberger's crash was in the same corner and at the same angle of attack as Senna's.
