Special activities including spaghetti feed for breast cancer coincide with KWS Cotton Classic week at Giant Chevrolet Kings Speedway

By Gary Thomas

Hanford, CA – October 3, 2011….The 2011 season for the Golden State King of the West 410 Sprint Car Series will conclude in a big way on Saturday October 15 at the Cotton Classic in Hanford and will feature some special activities during the weekend.

The Cotton Classic will mark the final event of the year for the Golden State King of the West Series and wraps up the inaugural season under the leadership of Rio Vista resident Dan Simpson.

The weekend will kick off on Thursday night October 13, with the Downtown Hanford Farmers Market from 6pm to 9pm. Live bands and fun will be had by all so stop on by the Farmers Market and enjoy the festivities. The KWS Show car along with drivers to be announced will be in attendance at the market.

More info on the Market can be found at http://www.local-farmers-markets.com/market/692/hanford/thursday-night-market-place

On Friday night October 14 the “Race for the Cure” will then be held at the Plaza Park Raceway in Visalia with adult tickets $8, students $3 and kids six and under free. More info can be found at www.plazaparkraceway.com

The stars of the future will be on hand at Plaza Park so be sure to go down early and check out the event.

On Saturday afternoon a spaghetti feed will be offered in the patio area of the grandstands at Giant Chevrolet Kings Speedway in support of Breast Cancer awareness, with donations encouraged. The feed will start at noon and run until 2pm. Donations go to Adventist Health Breast Care Center.

Later that night the Golden State King of the West Sprint Cars will take to the lightning fast 3/8 mile clay oval to cap the 410 Winged Sprint Car season in Northern California. Going into the evening Tim Kaeding has a stranglehold on the title, but there are several intriguing battles behind him.

Evan Suggs holds a firm grip on second in the points, however, third place Brent Kaeding is just 15-markers up on Jonathan Allard. The best race to watch will be the fight for fifth in the standings, where Jason Statler, Willie Croft and Andy Gregg are all just 10-points apart.

The difference in point position could mean thousands of dollars at the year-end banquet, so drivers will be giving it their all with dollar signs in sight. As previously noted when adding up cash and contingencies we currently have over $300,000 that will be handed out at the banquet.

The Golden State King of the West Sprint Car Series competed at Giant Chevrolet Kings Speedway in early August and that night saw T. Kaeding claim his tour leading sixth victory of the season. The remainder of the podium was rounded out by Statler and Suggs.

Other drivers expected at the 26th Cotton Classic on October 15 will be local favorite Tommy Tarlton of Easton, Elk Grove’s Bobby McMahan, Clovis’ Peter Murphy, St. Helena’s Rico Abreu, Stockton’s Brad Furr, Chico’s Kenny Allen, Fresno’s Craig Stidham, Visalia’s Cory Eliason, Tipton’s Mike Faria and more.

Also on hand for the night will be the USAC West Coast Wingless 360’s and should make for a great evening of Winged and Non Winged Sprint Car racing.

The Make-A-Wish two seater sprint car will be on display at the track for the Cotton Classic as well. This car will be available for rides at both Hanford and Tulare next season, with the proceeds going to Make-A-Wish.

The Giant Chevrolet Kings Speedway is located on the Kings County Fairgrounds in Hanford, California. The physical address is 801 S. 10th Ave. Hanford, Ca 93230. More information can be found at http://www.giantchevroletspeedway.com or by calling 559-584-7223.
