Murphy Bags 2nd in Bandit Competition! / Next Night Scores Top-10 with USAC/CRA!

By Gary Costa

Tulare , CA – May 30, 2007 …The past weekend we were destined to put some miles on the Tarlton & Son hauler over the Memorial weekend festivities. Saturday, we would race at Santa Maria Speedway to race with the Bandit 360 Sprint car series. Then on Sunday, we were off to Tulare ’s Thunderbowl Speedway to run with the USAC/CRA non-wing 410 Sprint cars.

After pulling into the Santa Maria Speedway pits. The pristine No. 21 was unloaded and readied to do battle with the 360 Bandit Sprint cars. Peter qualified the Maxim 5th, then proceeded to finish 2nd in his heat race. The main event would be a barn-burner, as Murphy and Davey Pombo would take the gloves off again, then would go at it with each other the entire distance. Good hard clean racing between these two would keep the fans entertained. In the end, Davey passed Peter for a truly exciting win!

After Santa Maria , we loaded up and headed to Tulare ’s Thunderbowl to continue our “No wings, No worries” Sprint car tour. This night we would race with the USAC/CRA 410 series. After qualifying the Tarlton & Son, Tachi Palace Hotel & Casino, Ridgeline Framing, Sharp Insurance, VMAC, BR Motorsports No. 21 in a disappointing 20th, “Murph” knew he was going to be playing catch up the whole evening. Knowing he was behind, Peter was “up on the wheel” in Heat-3. Pete was pulling away from the field, but Cory Kruseman was coming and reeled us in. He then made a beautiful pass on us in 3-4. Peter brought home a solid 2nd place finish in the exciting heat. In main event action, Peter lined up 17th in the field, and dealt with an ill handling race car, and 30-laps later, crossed the line in the 10th spot.

You experienced racing’s highs at Santa Maria and lows at Tulare over the weekend. It looked like you were doing what you could with an unhappy race car at Tulare: “Yeah, at Santa Maria , Davey was dogging me the whole race. If I remember right, we had 6 to go, and we were changing positions in every corner. It was a fantastic race. As for the “unhappy” race car, it defiantly was from where I was sitting. We did work on it on the red, and everyone worked hard, but we didn’t get the finish we were looking for."

Question of the Week! Sam Schiel asks;” With all of the racing you’ve done with the wings and without over the years, what is your favorite type of Sprint car to drive?”

Peter Answers! ”Sam thanks for checking in! I just love racing Sprint cars period. I really don’t care if it has a wing on it or not! If I’m in a race car, I’m happy."
