Warren, and friends of Racing From the Past,
I have read the new book The Offy Killer, Chet Wilson-The Man Behind The Legend.
This is a great book about Chet Wilson, and the Wilson family. For you gear heads
this book will go into great details, about the engines, and the cars that were
developed by Chet and Jerry, for midget, sprint car, and super modified racing.
There are also comments from the great drivers that raced for them, including
Harold Leep, Grady Wade, and Jerry Blundy (who raced the Offy Killer on the vintage
circuits, and raced against the red #25 in the 1950's, 60's and 1970's.)
Chet Wilson raced and won all over the United States in sprint car racing,
and was also one of the top owners in midget racing when it was the most popular
of all forms of car racing in the late 1940's, with drivers that included Hall Of Famer Lloyd Ruby.
Donna Wilson, with help from brother Jerry, and many others who raced for
and against the Wilson's, tell the story of the "Man Behind the Legend".
and his car "Big Red" which he developed with the Chevy Engine to slay the
mighty Offy motor. Donna Wilson has spent over a decade gathering information
for this book, while amassing more than 200 photo's, to make this a great racing
book on one of the most interesting racing personalities during the golden
age of racing in the Heartland.
