ts Haven't followed every event this year but how can you have 200+ in Tulsa begining of year and only 19 at USAC event last night, believe the Belleville National and Night B4 the 500 did not require consolation races either.
I know Chili Bowl have no other track running or racing at that time and other midgets races might be going on but what is the problem with the weak car counts?
Am sure racing just as good but what is keeping teams away?

Whatever the problem is I'm sure USAC has the solution for it (that there was sarcasm folks).

The last count I saw has 53 pre-entries, two weeks out for the Gold Crown Midget Nationals. If this years event is half as good as last year, it will be the best open wheel dirt race of the year. $10k to win and $700 to start is enough to even break the POWRi boycott of USAC.

The reason you see low counts at Eldora and Belleville is because too many guys only have 1 motor...and even guys that have 2 or 3 motors can't afford to blow one up trying to just make the show on the half miles...
PowrI thrives because they race on tracks that are mostly 1/4 or 1/3 miles, and because they book so many 2 race weekends so guys can get 2 chances to make back some of their travel money...guys like me with 10 year old cars/motors feel like we have a decent chance at having a good run on the smaller tracks....we know damn well we can't at Belleville or Eldora.
Loose is when you hit the wall with the rear of the
car, tight is when you hit the wall with the front of
the car. Horsepower is how fast you hit the wall and
torque is how far you move the wall.

just a thought----Mel Kenyon and his brother raced midgets for a living for both of them. They built chassis and sold them and Mel made some money in Indy cars. They were budget racers that did very well. Could two brothers do the same today? I doubt it. I read in Open Wheel a few years ago that you would have to make $ 2,000 a show to keep ahead of the game

You should have named this thread the "State of USAC midget racing"
As often as possible I head over to Illinois to watch POWRi midget racing. I dont think I have ever been to a POWRi race that didnt have a full field. They had 31 midgets at Macon Saturday night. This Saturday night is the Meents Memorial at Belleville Illinois, Belle-Clair Speedway. The POWRi midget finale for the season.
