RED OAK, Iowa (AP) — A Red Oak man has been arrested following a go-cart crash that seriously injured his 2-year-old son.
Atlantic radio station KJAN reports that 35-year-old Michael Soar was arrested early Tuesday morning on suspicion of felony child endangerment and serious injury by vehicle.
Authorities say Soar and his son were riding a go-cart the night of Sept. 5 when it hit a parked car. The toddler was flown by helicopter to a trauma center in Omaha, Neb.
Shawn Soar suffered minor injuries and was treated at the Montgomery County Memorial Hospital. He is being held in the Montgomery County Jail on $10,000 bond.
A public phone listing for Soar could not be found. Wanted some race fans views and not ignorant people. I have seen 2 cycle classes where the go karts run 50 - 60 mph and the pilot is 4 years old. DHS is out of control in Iowa and I should know. They stuck their hands into my life on a lie.

Good move by the authorities in my opinion. I rarely agree with law enforcement but this guy used no judgement if he was ripping around at night in a gokart with a 2yr old on board who I'm assuming had no helmet on. Then he runs into a parked car?? Total jackass.
Cheers!

My first impression (and I could be wrong) is that this most likely wasn't a racing type kart, rather the 2-seater, dune buggy type you see at Wal-Mart, Farm & Fleet etc.
Not that it really matters, but how many times have you seen a guy with his small child sitting in front of him on motorcycle, no helmet, no nothing?
I don't see a big difference.
It's a terrible tragedy, no doubt, but unless theres alcohol involved, I really don't agree with the charges.
Think how bad the Dad feels anyway.
My son raced karts, it's a much different enviroment than "yard-karts" on the street.
I feel for the family.

I think his child being hurt is punishment enough......you assume he was driving reckless at 60 mph....how do you know he wasn't having some cautious fun at lower speeds and had an accident (they happen ya know) A child can be injured at any speed with a good knock on the head.....
When a child falls off his bike and is injured or falls out of a window are the parents thrown in jail? No.
Like earlier said, unless alcohol was involved or he was being blatantly unsafe then I would let it be.
On the other hand....no excuse for not having the child in a helmet (if there wasn't one)

Late to the dance on this one. Was told, maybe wrong, that the kid was riding in his lap on a regular go kart.
