There is probable no answer to this. I have heard that top line ASCS may cost $40,000. I think my numbers are ok. The 410 pay $3000 to win and $600 for last place in A main. The 360 pay $1250 to win and $150 for last place in A main. If you are a top 360 driver and gets new tires every week.why would you not go for the big money in 410

im no rocket scientist.. but in order to race 410s competitively especially at a place like knoxville.. you almost gotta have at least 2 motors. at 40 grand a pop it isnt cheap to do that.. also you can run an ascs motor for 20 + shows.. to geep a great 410 motor running great you usually cant run it more then 10 shows at most because of the high compression.. i think the average freshen at a top line engine builder with shipping and everything is roughly 4 - 7 grand, think about doing that 2 to 3 times a year

Linbob,
You are asking a reasonable question. I shared the following on the "Clint Garner's 360" thread.
A new, hard hitting ASCS motor is now north of $35,000.00. WOW!
It took the ASCS guys 10 years to go from entry level to a class now owned by the elite. Watch carefully, because the 305 guys have already surpassed "entry level". The 305 guys have done in 5 years, what the ASCS guys did in 10.
To your point Linbob, the 360 to 410 cost gap is shrinking; rapidly!

Good 305 cost 18.000-20.000 to win 600.

Seems to me the 410 makes better sense. The 410's have far better paying shows than the 360 and far more of them. Shane Stewart made more in 4 days at the Nationals with a 410 than he could ever make in the 360 ranks. Nothing against the 360's, I just wish they'd remember what they were created for, a feeder and support class, not near a National thing.

How much of the cost on these motors is labor? Not just 305's, all of them.
On a $30K 360, what is the parts bill and what is the labor cost?

Apparently that depends on which heads you opt for.

Just curious what guys are spending on the 305s to drive them so high in costs. Looking at the rules for Knoxville they limit so of the things that make motors expensive (block lightning, heads, compression) besides a pricey injection system where is the rest of the money being spent?

That is what I have been asking and no one answers. If you spent $18K on a 305, all I can figure is $10K is for labor and those pretty stickers on the pan and valve covers......
I would like to see the invoice for one to see what it shows!!

I know a prominent car owner that told me that he has NEVER spent more than $16,000 for any 360 motor he has ever run. BTW, he did win at Knoxville this season so you don't have to pay $35,000+ for a 360 to win races.

Heat race wins, but sorry, no features.....I did beat at least 2 of those cars you mentioned every time I was there though.....
You are right though, those cars won most (if not all) of the features up there this year. But out of those cars, is the motor the ONLY reason they won? Or does it help to have someone with setup advice also?
