I checked back, and the driver listed for the 16 was Charles Fritz.

The AZ guys have a big weekend in Tucson so any chance of getting them over is slim to none.
I want to go to the race to support Steve and Victorville, but I'm playing it by ear. I know going to that race would be what Mark would want us to do, but I don't know if my heart would be in it.
If I don't make it, please have fun for me. I'm sorry to let ya down Steve, but right now my heart is broken as I lost a dear friend to Cancer on Sunday. I promise I will try.
I'm trying to support V-ville as much as I can. It's a great track w/a promoter who gives a damn about the racers and the fans as well as his pocket book.
Just a reminder to any racers: Steve pays in CASH!!! Right after the races too, so there's no waiting for your money.
Have fun this weekend no matter where ya go racin at.
RIP Chet and Mark. You might be gone but never will
be forgotten.

I had a good time at Arizona Speedway both times I went, the competition was good and the track seems very racey. The place was beyond packed, and its a big grand stand. Don't know much about the politics here in AZ but I do know talking about it is a good thing. Driving back from Tucson today I was thinking is AZ Speedway going to get any dates for ASCS or USAC next year? Probably not from the sound of things, which makes no sense. They get 5000 people to go to a factory stock race but the best sprint car drivers in the state don't want to race there? I don't get it. Lock the door on the office and figure it out... looking forward to a great show this weekend at USA. Cheers

we ran the first two shows at az speedway. we would love to go back but not until they put clay on it. that could also be why more teams do not want to go!

The surface is very much like Victorville's Leland, and I think when Shon passed the 77 up top, he though the surface was just fine. As you know a good part of the dust that was kicked up that night was from drivers cutting down over the inside burm. I don't buy for a moment that the reason some of the teams haven't been there is because of the track, and frankly I'm surprised to see you say that in your post. I talked with RJ when he got to the track that night, and no one was more surprised than RJ when Shon took him high and wide! RJ is very very good on the bottom, and he thought since he was back in the 77 again, and against that field, it was in the bag.

i thought it was a great race, same as the first one. we like really like the place, but like i said, we wont be back until they put clay on it. we were promised the track would have clay on it after the second race. we said we would run those two shows and after that if they didnt have clay we wouldnt be back, so thats what we are doing. also, i guess i dont know the difference between the top of the track and the bottom, cause most of the dust is coming from the top of the track. there were times i couldn't see rj or shon, and rj said the same thing, he couldn't see. i realize we are gonna go to race tracks that have dust problems, but i don't expect it every time. we are fine with it being dry slick, but not being able to see is a different story. this place is going to be dusty no matter what until they put clay on it.
i guess theres a line you draw when you are told something is going to happen and it doesn't. with ascs we knew what was going to happen. do i agree with everything they do, of course not. but ascs is the best thing arizona has going on. we have supported ascs, asca, challenge cup and az speedway. when our new motor is done you will see us back with ascs, and when they put clay on az speedway we will be back there to.
i hope to see az speedway continue to have success with their operation. we enjoy knowing there is another track in arizona that supports sprintcar racing.

I know you do Leland, and I always look forward to seeing your cars on the track no matter what series their running with, or what track their on.
Are you going to field a car for the UASC/CRA race at Canyon? I think some of the hot 360's with the right driver could make a very good showing.
Edit.. They put tires around the bottom going into the turns, and the dust you see in the above video was much much less in the last race there. I'd say it was not a issue, and the race was won by Stevie Sussex running for the most part on the bottom, though he ran, and won up top in his heat.

we talked about it, and would love to, but we are gonna try to catch a few races before the western and just focus on that. we have been pretty busy this year with work, so trying to fit in working on the car hasnt been a easy task. we will have to enjoy it along with perris from the sidelines.
i do agree about the right driver in the right car, it would be fun to see a 360 run well with the 410s.
that is great that they did that. im sure that helped a bunch. i know swinehart liked running there and he said he will be back for sure. they have a honey-hole there for sure. the # of fans that show up is impressive and nice to see.

that is great that they did that.
But why did they have to go so darned BIG! Did you see, or hear about what happened to that challenge cup car (sorry can't remember who) when he slammed into one going into 3? It stopped it dead, and then shot it straight up in the air.

if you are talking about the size of the track i agree. i like smaller tracks and i think it puts on a better show. i think that was fritz croy in my old car. i guess he hit a tire which broke something in the steering. it didnt turn so well at the other end!

No, definitely not the track, I like the bigger tracks myself. It's the size of the tires they put around it that I referring to. Putting tires around a track if you have to deter the drivers from cutting across is one thing, but putting something out there that's not only going to trash a car, but possibly the driver too is just not necessary.
If they get the clay in and more seating, maybe Kevin will have to pay Jonah to race there. LOL I don't know what the corporation (ASCS) wants $ wise to put on a show, but at this point with great crowds, and with work still to be done, why would Jonah want to? I'm selfish, because what I see foremost out there is a opportunity to grow our sport with new and younger fans, and that's something we all know we desperately need.
Opening night...The event was a huge success for Jonah and his team. The turnout was projected to be 2,000-2,500 people, but more than 3,300 people showed up for the night's racing. It was standing room only and the fans didn't seem to mind a bit. This was a great sign. There was obviously a hunger and the Arizona Speedway just might be the perfect menu item.

Hey, I know where we can get some clay. There is this spot down on 35th and Broadway in Phoenix, there is some clay down there for sure I think. Might have to move some equipment out of the way to get at it though...
Just because the races were good (they were) and I enjoyed it (I did) does not mean Lealand is not right (he is). Visibility should be a concern. It was pretty sandy, they are going to have to lay down clay at some point no matter what so might as well get it over whith while business is good.

Of couse it needs clay, but like I said, it was not a issue the last race there.http://www.abcmotorsports.com/wwocresults7-17-11.htm
"We were happy to see a big improvement in the dust issue this weekend. The track was under a lot of strain with the extra time and toll taken by the make up races and the 108 degree heat. All these factors played havoc on the delicate track surface, but it fared surprisingly well. The visibility remained good during the feature, and the dust was comparable or better than we have seen at other facilities under the same tough conditions".
