if people r gonna bitch and moan cause of the noise from the races at ocean speedway its their own damn fault if ur gonna move and live near a race track expect noise. its not the race tracks fault. The track was their first.

This guy who is leading the charge knows exactly what he is doing. He isn't interested in them just complying with some environmental policy with the idea that they would somehow be able to continue operations because he knows full well that in order to comply with this policy they would no longer be able to operate much of what they do there at the fairgrounds which is what he really wants. In a more lawless time this guy's house would mysteriously burn down (which is about what it would take for him to get the clue) and the problem would be solved. Civility is lawyering up and trying to get your way because you can afford better lawyers than whatever it is that you are hell bent on trying to destroy. Which is why I tend to say "fuck civility".

I was thinking about a somewhat more subtle hint like a BIG pile of manure blocking his driveway. Of course I would never do anything like that (mainly because I don't own a dump truck) but I can also imagine that manure isn't cheap. Maybe a load of really poor quality soil, containing large rocks and debris, would do just as well. Again, this is all just theoretical mind you. I would never suggest that anyone actually do something of this nature, would I?

from what i understand (which isn't much really) the race track is grandfathered in as far as the environmental impact studies etc. the track is also complying with noise regulations etc, and operating within established legal parameters. it seems the resident group is trying to get the noise regulations changed. those as far as i know are set by the state. it seems to me both sides of the story are not being fully represented in the news report. that is ok by me as all that matters is what happens in court or by law. still public opinion is something to have on your side i guess.

i went to ocean for the 1st time when the usac 410s were there this year and they had ppl monitoring the noise level . but the fair says they cant afford proper representation then that is a huge problem . cant you ppl just say 1st come 1st serve and no taking cuts ? i believe the dump truck with manure might help and they do have a rodeo at the fair that might come cheaply.

the residents are trying to stop the rodeo too as far as i know.

this is not just a race track thing.

these people are after EVERYTHING at the fairgrounds.

why are these people trying to shut down the fairgrounds?

the way i understand things is that these residents are trying to use a state law that was never meant to be used in such a way, to make anything the fairgrounds does subject to an environmental impact study as to what effects, if any, it will have on the community. while the idea of the law may have been well intended, it was written so broadly that it has been used for purposes beyond what its original intent was.

Neighbor Kelly, as previously reported, hired Gary Patton as his lawyer. Patton, the former and longtime chair of the county board of supervisors is a noted, crafty and feared environmental lawyer. Patton single handedly kept Hwy 1 from being widened for a decade or more. In fact he fought the addition of safety barriers on 17 fearing they would encourage the dreaded valley people to come "over the hill" to visit his precious Santa Cruz. He is expert at using the vagaries of environmental law to get what he wants. He knows he can use EPA law to wear out the fair board until they shutter the place. Smart strategy.

randy repass is the founder and if i am not mistaken the major stock holder of west marine. from what little i know there are people bigger than us on the inside of this deal who are not happy with west marine. if any of you race supporters are doing business with west marine, you are just contributing to the opposition of the fairgrounds.

show your support for ocean speedway and the fairgrounds by coming out to the johnny key classic on sat aug 27.

with a purse of $5000 to win and $300 to start it has to be one of, if not the highest paying local series event out west.

I see nothing implicating Mr. Repass to this issue. Though he has been huge supporter of the DNC, Moveon.org, Boxer, Hillary, and "others" according to many political donation sites.

these people are worried what the impact to the community of a few events at the fairgrounds will be.

they should be worried what impact the closing of the fairgrounds would have to the community.

i get the feeling mr. repass and some others in his group are using this group as a front for other underlying intents and motives. i am not even sure that is known by others in the group. of course that is just a feeling.

as long as mr. repass is siding with this group, those who support the fairgrounds should be aware of his stance when deciding whether to deal with west marine.

Thank you for the link. Why anybody would be in support of closing a facility that gernerates income for the county and city might give an appearnce that there could be other motives.
