Got a call from a friend a few minutes ago reporting that Earl Gaerte passed on this morning at 8:50 after a long illness. Very sad news, Earl played an enormous role in the development of short track horsepower and across four decades was a key figure in many forms of motorsports.
He was also a really neat man and a good friend to countless people in our sport.
RIP my friend.

Hope they do something nice for Earl at Knoxville. He would be a prime candidate to honor by placing his name on a "hard charger award" or "quick time trophy"
Is this heaven?
No, it's Iowa....Knoxville, Iowa.

When Sammy hauled Earl's stuff past Beer Hill in the early 90s, it sounded better than stuff today. RIP Earl. You were a huge part of the sport in its hay day.
Luna's Ford engine style that won 2 WoO titles and 3
Kings Royals before a weight rule against the best EVER
in their prime and now DOMINATES super dirt late model
racing is no longer allowed/wanted in a WoO sprint
car.... Was Luna a miracle worker?

Very sad news indeed. Earl will FOREVER be respected as a loyal supporter of open wheel racing and his contributions and achievements will always be remembered by those who admire his success. God Speed Earl

I will always have great respect for Earl. He was fair and honest with me in engine business deals. He was good for the the sport we love. To Joe and the family, may God's peace be with you during this time. RIP Earl

Earl probably advanced the sprint car engine as much or more than anyone. RIP

I met Mr. Gaerte at the NCRA Hutchinson Nationals when I was a teenager back in the 1980's.. He was there hanging out with the Nance family and Jeff Swindell. He treated me like family with his kindness and conversation. Wonderful contributions to the sport. May God be with him and his family.
