Dan Simpson to debut A4MP Engine at KWS events this weekend in Watsonville and Hanford

By Gary Thomas

Rio Vista, CA – August 3, 2011…Rio Vista, California’s Dan Simpson will debut the A4MP engine in Golden State King of the West Sprint Car Series competition this weekend at Watsonville’s Ocean Speedway on Friday and the Giant Chevrolet Kings Speedway on Saturday.

In addition to being a driver Simpson is also the Managing Director for the KWS tour and is hoping that the engine will be the wave of the future in helping to cut costs for sprint car racing.

The A4MP is a motor package that derived from GM's LS engine program primarily because of the high volume of production and after market engine components. The motor can be built for less than $20,000.

A prototype was tested in competition last summer. It was raced on a high-banked quarter-mile, a flat three-eighth and a half-mile dirt oval. The results did provide a positive reaction and proved to have the ability to be competitive with the current 410 motors.

The A4MP encourages any interested engine builders to become certified A4MP builders. Shaver Specialities and Schwanke Engines are currently certified builders of the motor. Details regarding certification and more specifications of the engine can be found by visiting the website:
http://www.alternative410motor.com

Once a builder has been approved and the motor builder has secured the required bond, which binds them to maintain the integrity of the motor in each aspect or face financial repercussions, the A4MP website will list them as certified builders and include contact information. The site will also maintain a registry of all A4MP engines built, making it easy for competition directors to find out details of a particular motor at any given time.

The A4MP engine has been approved for usage with a number of racing organizations and tracks across North America including Knoxville Raceway, the All-Star Circuit of Champions, Interstate Racing Association and the Golden State King of the West Sprints.

The front gate of the Ocean Speedway opens at 4:30pm on Friday with qualifying around 5:30 and racing scheduled to start around 6. Adult tickets will cost $20, children 6-12 $15, seniors 65 and older will be $18.

The Ocean Speedway is located on the Santa Cruz County Fairgrounds, two miles east of Watsonville, California on SR 152. The physical address is 2601 East Lake Ave, Watsonville, CA 95076. More information can be found at

The front gate of the Giant Chevrolet Kings Speedway opens at 5pm on Saturday with racing expected to begin just after 6:30. Reserved grandstand tickets will be $20 with general admission tickets $17.

The Giant Chevrolet Kings Speedway is located on the Kings County Fairgrounds in Hanford, California. The physical address is 801 S. 10th Ave. Hanford, Ca 93230. More information can be found at

Simpson will be just one of the many teams expected in action this weekend that will be led by current Golden State King of the West Sprint Car Series point leader Tim Kaeding of San Jose. A full program of qualifying, heat races, the dash, last chance qualifier and a 30-lap A-main will be on the docket both nights.

So far this season there have been 13-races run with KWS and there have been seven different winners, with those being Tim Kaeding, Jonathan Allard, Tommy Tarlton, Willie Croft, Andy Gregg, Evan Suggs and Peter Murphy. There are a number of hungry drivers though looking for their first victory including Brent Kaeding, Bobby McMahan, Jason Statler and more.
