Ha. A ten day forcast?? They have no clue about 2 days from now. However, if it does rain plan on a sweaty, hot, boring day race. If there is lots of rain keep your Sunday open.

"They have no clue about 2 days from now" very true. But its all I have to go on....
So you're saying if it rains a bit, they wait it out?
Thanks

You have better odds of filling a bucket with piss inside a tornado than you do of getting even a semi-accurate 10-day forecast.
Sadly, rain is an inevitable part of Knoxville. We seemed to go several years without problems, but we probably average one Saturday afternoon show or Sunday Nationals Final every five years.
This is why I also take the Monday after the Nationals off, so that I can have my Sunday free to see the Finals. Better to be safe than sorry.
Is this heaven?
No, it's Iowa....Knoxville, Iowa.

I hate day races. I would rather see a qualifing night start at 1 am then a friggin day race.

I wish they would run a morning race instead of a day race. Start it at 8 AM when it is still a bit cool and maybe the track won't go all to shit too soon haha. If the drunkards can't make it then they can't make it.
Last year's day race was actually pretty darn good though, the track held up decently and allowed for some good passing which is all you can ask for.

LOL! Now that there's funny, I don't care who you are.
But you're absolutely right. They can't even look out the window and get the current conditions right!

I agree. I have no problem either saying until the wee hours of the morning to finish a night or start in the morning to avoid the heat.
Not sure how it affects track prep, but if it is possible I'm all for it.
I don't go to Knoxville to get drunk - I don't mind a beer or two or three - but the week is about racing, not about seeing how polluted I can make my liver.

Last years day race was terrible, everyone was around the bottom and anytime anybody tried the cushion they would go back 3 spots. They did fix it up for the World Challenge and that was decent, but the Non-Qual races were run on typical day time tracks.
But, I'd much rather have a Saturday morning show then have to push it back an extra day.
It seems like there is always rain, I've been 5 of the last 6 years and I think only once was there not a rain out all week.

Best weather forecast for the next 2 weeks is from weatherunderground.com, Des Moines Iowa 7/29 to 8/12 2011. Might rain ...might not ...always those two possibilities.
On a serious note ...as several posters here have mentioned ...the various weather services and TV stations can't call 48 hours out accurately half of the time ..

Two years ago, we got rain on Wednesday night as they were packing the track. I will never forget looking at my watch at midnight as they were playing the national anthem. It was actually kind of cool. Didn't mind a bit. Got the race in which is all that mattered to me.

I remember that. They started the many many sets of hot laps to work the track in around 10:30. Races were done around 3am or so. Moral of the story, they will do anything they can to get it in and if it is not possible, then you have the afternoon race.

If I recall correctly, that was the night TK won the prelim and it was one of the better features I've seen.

Sounds right, and yes it was actually very good racing considering the track had just received a ton of rain. I think the only cloud in the entire state of Iowa, blew up over Knoxville for about 3 hours.

That's right. I was looking at the radar on my phone and was absolutely in disbelief when the only cell in the state was over our beloved track. And it was the slowest moving sonofabitch you ever did see.
God, I hate rain.
