All in all a pretty good night of racing with a very special ending.

The heats were easily the dirtiest (those sitting in the stands, myself included) I have ever seen at the Big O, ever. Had to laugh at the comments by first timers who got filthy, especially the pavement folks there to see Tony. I spoke with track owner and A-Main competitor Glen Styres after the heats and there was nothing he could do he told me. There's been a heat wave and a month long drought and when he dug up the track there was simply no moisture anywhere and what he added only took in a few places but it wasn't too bad for the A. Myers, Schatz and McMahon all passed lots of cars in the non-stop 30 lapper.

Sam Hafertepe was most impressive early in the night, coming from 4th to second in his heat and then winning the Dash from 5th, doubt that's happened much this year, if at all. While many drove close to the bottom or at the very top he had the middle worked out early but I'm not sure what happened in the A 'coz he faded badly the last half. I can't imagine it will be too long before we see the 15 parked in Victory Lane at a W of O show, he did win the 360 Special held the night before here.

At the other extreme was Lucas Wolfe. He finished 7th in his heat behind a 360 and then barely, by a couple of feet, finished 6th in the B behind 3 or 4 360's and then finished 22nd in the A behind a bunch more 360's, very confusing or telling, not sure which.

It was pretty special to see Tony win (and deserve it big-time) the A even tho' my guy Sammy was 2nd. Sammy may have been a bit faster at the end but Tony drove a perfect race, never got rattled and was full value for the victory. This win for Tony completes my Trifecta and I don't think anyone else on the planet, other than Tony can make this claim. I saw his first ever race in a winged sprint car at Parramatta in Sydney, Austalia, I saw his first ever win in a winged sprint car (360) at Sedalia, MO and was fortunate enough to see his first ever W of O win last night up here in Canada. Three firsts in three different countries, WAY TO GO TONY.....

PS My frustration with track prep at the Big E has never detracted me from my thoughts on the greatest driver on the planet.....Was great to see and spend time with old friends Wayne Johnson and Doug Rankin, two top shelf guys....

Thanks for the nice little report. Wish more people did these. Gives more insight into what actually happened than the bland press releases we get.

You are one lucky guy there MSPN. I would love to have the opportunity to travel to half the tracks you've been to. I'm sure last night was one very special evening of racing, with Tony winning. I'd like to make the trek out to Ohsweken one day for the Canadian Nationals.

Brad, wore my black with red lettering NEBRASKA CORNHUSKERS shirt last night in your honor, lol.

Donny Schatz had a line-up to buy his stuff and tons of people walking around with bags of his goodies, can't believe all the teams don't bring up their merchandise trailers, these folks Love to spend money up here...

The Canadian 360 Nationals are a GREAT show not unlike Knoxville's 360 Nationals. Former winners include the man himself, Kenny Jacobs and good guy Wayne Johnson. Always lots of cars at a great racy facility, wouldn't miss it...

Thanks Mike. There are outlaw fans and then their is MSPN. Great job. It looks like the track prep issue is an international problem! Sammy in his prime could drive by Tony on the high side with one hand on the wheel and the other on the wing adjustment!

Luna's Ford engine style that won 2 WoO titles and 3
Kings Royals before a weight rule against the best EVER
in their prime and now DOMINATES super dirt late model
racing is no longer allowed/wanted in a WoO sprint
car.... Was Luna a miracle worker?

Sammy in his prime?? He damn near won the Nationals last year, won the Grove National Open, and was a corner away from winning the King's Royal this year. Most people aren't betting against Sammy in the Nationals this year either. I've seen Sammy in his prime - and the last couple years have been damn close, if not better! Give credit where credit is due.... Tony is a helluva driver

Chilly, Kim and I had a nice chat with Amy and I think she summed it up best when I was asking/talking about her husband, 'Sammy is Sammy'. In other words, when he races, he races to win ONLY and last night was another great example and he ran Tony down and almost got there from a helluva long ways back.

I once stood in the showroom at Sammy's shop (back about 10 years ago) among the dozens of trophies, plaques and awards and tried to get him to tell me which one was the most important. I pried, I about pleaded and I even tried to trick him into giving me an answer but he wouldn't. Sammy wants to win, that's ALL that matters, Period End of Story and when he does he moves on to the next one, that's what ultimate competitors do and why he is who he is, Sammy. By the way, when I walked into his shop that day, he was by himself out back on a ladder shinning a tail light on the motorhome and you could have eaten a gourmet dinner off of any spot in his shop, showroom or office floor, never seen anything like it.....

I got a million of 'em, many good memories of those years on the road chasing them dang little cars. No Nationals again, still have a few health issues and a job that pays too much, lol. A few years away from my 2nd Retirement, maybe at that time? Sure miss all the friends and heck, even a few enemies these days, all the best, Take It Easy....

Something else I forgot to mention that is rather interesting. When was the last time that the 50-50 Draw exceeded the 2nd place winnings in the A-Main as it was $5400.00 and the night before which was just a silly special it was almost $4500.00. Almost 10 Large spent by the gambling crazy Canucks of which I am proudly one, lol.....

Its that little thing they call "duties" at the border that stops most of the trailers.

Great to hear from you again, especially from a racetrack!

Nice report. Miss you in Knoxville, Jackson, Sioux Falls ,Spirit Lake... The list goes on..

Tell the Mrs. hello from all of us. Miss her probably more than you. hehehe
