Brian Brown charges from 14th to 1st in Knoxville

By Gary Thomas

May 23, 2007..."Blackjack" Brian Brown and the Doog’s Racing team could have easily thrown in the towel early in the night at Knoxville this past Saturday after blowing an engine in hot laps. The whole team kept digging, however, and Brian was able to pick up his second win of the year at Knoxville Raceway after charging through the pack and putting on a terrific show aboard the Big Ox, Ditzfield Transfer, American Compressed Steel, Michael Ross Memorial Foundation, Maxim Racing No. 21.

After blowing the engine in hot laps the team was able to get a motor change done in time to take one lap at the end of qualifying. Brian’s one and only lap was good enough for 23rd quickest in the Housby Trucks, K & N Filters, Yeager’s Harley Davidson No. 21. "Blackjack" then started eighth in the second heat race and battled up to a fifth place finish to transfer into the night’s feature.

It was a long road ahead for Brian as he lined up on the outside of row seven in the main event. He kept poised though and sliced his way through the pack early on. He was to the top five by lap eight and then had a tremendous battle with Billy Alley for third until "Blackjack" took the spot on lap 10. Lap 13 saw Brian catch and pass Calvin Landis for second and on lap 15 he made the pass for the lead, but a caution negated the move and he had to go back to second. When going back green it only took Brian a few laps to get close enough and he pulled a slider to take the lead from Skip Jackson that he would never relinquish.

We would like to thank all our sponsors that made this win possible: Big Ox, Ditzfield Transfer, Maxim Racing, American Compressed Steel, Michael Ross Memorial Foundation, Housby Trucks, K & N Filters, Hostiowa.net, Yeagers Harley Davidson, Wolfe Eye Clinic, Champion Brands, Shock Doctor, Weld Wheels, VK Graphics, Bell Helmets, CP Pistons, Paul's Auto Body Supply, Butler Built Seats, Rod End Supply, Winters Performance Products, ISC Racers Tape, Simpson, Racing Optics, Pro Shocks, Dake Law Office, Wes. Mo. Auto, Don's Truck Wash, Sunshack Tan, McCroskey Chevrolet, Gardner Farms and Hoosier Tires.

On Sunday night Brian and the team competed at the Double X Speedway in California, MO and brought home a second place finish.

This weekend will see Brian compete in three straight night’s of action beginning on Friday with the ASCS Midwest Region at the Mccool Junction Raceway in Nebraska. Then on Saturday it will another night of Knoxville Raceway point competition before finishing off the weekend on Sunday with a night of action with the Winged Outlaw Warriors at Double X Speedway.
