Hi. Does anyone know anything about an annual Knoxville Nationals 1/3 marathon and 5k race that is usually the weekend before the nationals? We are not local and having trouble finding info, however, each year we go we hear about it. I think it is going to be the saturday before (so, the 6th)....
Hoping someone local may have heard something or seen something around town about it. Thanks!

They (Knoxville Dollars for Scholars) are not having it this year.
Reason given was that they didn't make any $$ on it and lack of volunteers to help orgainize and run the event that morning (most of us that live in town are already volunteering for a myriad of other events throughout the 10 days in addition to our regular jobs).
I wish they'd have it, but I can understand why they aren't as without volunteers you just can't pull it off.

Not too surprising. I talked to the race director last year and said that if they didn't make any money on it they wouldn't do it again. He too understood that people are doing many other things that week as well. Plus (and I'm no runner), I would not want to run in the heat that comes to Iowa during that time of year.
