Ventura Racing Association Sprint Car Series

VENTURA SPRINT CAR WARS CONTINUE SATURDAY

VENTURA, CA – JULY 14, 2011… Round #13 of the 2011 campaign for the VRA Sprint Car Series will be held this Saturday, July 16th, at Jim Naylor’s Ventura Raceway. Joining the showcase will be the VRA Midgets, Ford Focus Midgets, Junior Ford Focus Midgets, VRA Sport Compacts and VRA Go Karts. The front gates will open at 3:00pm with racing at "The Best Little Dirt Track In America" to begin at 5:30pm.

After a two week break, Ventura's Greg Taylor will be looking to continue his march to another title. Piloting the #7 Clark Engineering Construction / Westco International Consulting Inc. special, the 2007 champion holds a 355 point advantage over the competition. Taylor won his second feature of the season on June 25th, pocketing the $3000 All Coast Challenge #2. To date, Greg has six heat race victories, two hard charger awards, ten top-10 finishes, and led eighty-seven feature laps to his credit.

Camarillo's Josh Ford is second in the championship point standings. Driving the #73 King Racing Products / A&A Precision Machining entry, Ford finished second to Taylor on June 25th. The former USAC National Sprint Car Rookie of the Year has three heat race victories, one hard charger award, and ten top-10 finishes on the year. Josh will be looking to close the gap on Saturday with a main event win.

Steve Conrad of Quartz Hill is third in the point chase. On June 25th, the pilot of the #56 Roy Miller Freightlines / SC Grafix special claimed seventh after starting fourteenth in the 30-lap feature. The veteran driver has one feature win on the season along with one heat race victory, three hard charger awards, nine top-10 finishes, and led eighteen laps of main event competition. The USAC TQ Midget graduate will be one of the favorites to score the Ventura win.

Climbing to fourth in the standings is Brian Camarillo of Camarillo. Driving the #22 Agromin Soil / Waste Management car, Brian scored fourth in the last VRA feature. To date, the June 18th feature winner has hard charger has five heat race victories, one semi-main win, and six top-10 finishes in 2011. Camarillo will have his eyes set on Saturday’s 30-lap main event victory.

Sitting fifth in the points is Don Gansen of Rialto. Piloting the 71K Sander Engineering / Lucas Oil machine, Gansen had tough luck and did not make the June 25th All Coast Challenge feature. The California Lightning Sprint Car graduate has one feature win, two heat race victories, seven top-10 finishes, and thirty-three feature laps led on the season. Don would like to add the Saturday’s feature to his resume.

Among the other top contenders expected to be in action are Ojai's Derek Buckley, Camarillo's Brent Camarillo, Markus Niemela of Santa Barbara, Ventura’s Cory Kruseman, Norwalk's Brandon Thomson, Brody Roa of Buena Park, Santa Clarita's Clark Templeman III, Newbury Park's Jimmy Crawford, and many more.

Ventura Raceway is located on the Ventura County Fairgrounds at 10 West Harbor Blvd. in Ventura, California. Adult tickets are $14, Senior, Military, and Student tickets (ID Required) are $11. During the month of May, fans 18 and under (with proper ID) are admitted for FREE. In addition, parking for this Saturday's event is $2. Take the desert route through Bakersfield and meet Dwayne, Chiller, & I @ Kings for double usac sprint car main events.

From south and west of the 405 / 10 interchange: Straight out the 1 into Oxnard, then north on Rose to the 101. Slam dunk. I do it regularly. One can also head up Las Virgenes off of 1 to the 101. It's the straightest of the north-south roads through the Malibu canyons. Just give yourself an extra half hour from the Gardena area.

I suppose it can't be any slower than the 405 even on a "good" day.

I'll need more than an extra 1/2 hour though...since I live in Nevada...;p I was just curious since the media is making it sound like the world is actually ending in LA.

Hope y'all enjoy the races and don't get stuck in traffic.
