Arizona Speedway To Host the Third Wild West Open Comp Sprint Car Race!!
Saturday July, 16th at 8:00 will mark the third race of the Wild West Open Comp Series at ET Motopark's Arizona Speedway in Apache Junction, Arizona.
The first Two in the series were conquered by two different winners. Matt Rossi took the high side of the 3/8 mile high banked oval leading to the checker to be the first driver to ever win a sprint car Main event at the new facility. The second race in the series was no less spectacular as RJ Johnson in the Bill Michaels 77m Sherman built car fought relentlessly to retain the lead spot only to be overtaken by a late pass on the high side by Shon Deskins In the SDR Ellis car.
Both of the first two events packed the stands with an excess of 3000 people from all over the Phoenix Metropolitan area. Fans were on their feet all the time the Sprints were on the track. Many were introduced to the sport of Sprint car racing.
The track stayed moist and fast all night with two grooves. Racers were pleased with the way the surface was prepared, and were surprised at how well it stayed considering the composition of the dirt. The exception was a powdery berm on the inside of the track. Some of the cars running the inside groove would scrape the top off it exposing the dust underneath, causing dust that obscured the drivers clear view. The facility owner has eliminated the problem by placing tire barriers around the bottom of the track to keep the cars from throwing dust from the berm onto the track surface.
The staff of Arizona Speedway continues to make improvements on the facility as funds permit. Every week you can see something being done to improve things. With good support from the open wheel community, this facility will continue to grow and become a premier facility for sprint car racing.
We invite all racers and fans alike to come on out Saturday July 16th for a great night of sprint car racing. Pit gate will be open at 4:00 and the races start at 8:00. Arizona Speedway is located at 47460 S. Ironwood Road in Apache Junction. We hope to see you there!
