NEWTON (July 9, 2011) – Danielle and the Ossenfort Racing team stuck close to home last weekend, celebrating their Fourth of July holiday early at the Black Hills Speedway in Rapid City, South Dakota, last Friday. "It was a great weekend to go home and get back behind the wheel, because it was the Fourth of July and the track had fireworks after the races," said Danielle with excitement about the past weekend.

Hot laps were a little tricky for everyone because Mother Nature dumped a bunch of rain on the town just before the races. The track was wet and sloppy, and it was difficult for everyone to get going in the heats. "I was especially nervous because the track was extremely greasy and slippery, so I took my time and didn't really get a feel for the car at all." Danielle said of her hot laps.

Danielle and the Knology #10D started on the outside, second row, in fourth for the heat race. By this time, there had been enough traffic on the track to pack it in some and it went from sloppy wet, to tacky fast. "I was ready for a sticky track and I knew there was nothing I could do but hold down the gas for the entire race! When the half-mile track gets as tacky as it was on Friday, any mistakes you make or even just letting up from the gas, can send you right to the back of the pack. So, momentum is the key," said Danielle. It was an unfortunate start for the twenty-two year old, as she was boxed in with nowhere to go and no moves to make, but she got lucky and a restart was called due to another competitor's blown motor. "It was too bad for them really, but it was a much better start for me this time," she said. After this start the #10D made her way around two cars, for a solid second place finish in the heat.

The Knology #10D started sixth in the A-Main event and luckily, with the weather as humid as it has been throughout the Midwest in the last month, the track seemed to hold its moisture and there wasn't much change from the heats to the main events. Danielle and the team had decided that they would leave the cars "as is" and not make any changes to them after such a great run in the heat race, but as you'll hear from Danielle, perhaps a small change would have been just that much better. "I kind of wish that we would have loosened up my car just a bit, because it wasn't turning as well as it had in the heat and I slid straight to the top of the track," Danielle said. Despite the fight Danielle had with her car vs. the track, she finished the night out with a top ten finish. "I should have been driving the car a little harder like I had in the heat race, because when you drive it harder into the corner, the car will turn better. This was a different track than I'm used to at Black Hills. Typically it's pretty dry. But I ended up with a tenth place finish and considering I'm still getting used to it all, I think that was a success!"

"I just need to keep improving and getting more and more laps under my belt!" said Danielle. You can bet she'll be back at it and you can look for Danielle to be on the track again for the July 22 event back at Black Hills Speedway in Rapid City, South Dakota. Be sure you get out there to cheer her on!

Vortex Racing Products
Vortex Racing Products is the industry leader in Sprintcar Wing design. From humble beginnings in 1995 where we began producing wings for our own use we quickly became engaged in producing wings for other race teams. Inspired by a life-long background in racecar design and manufacturing from our Dad, we (Paul and Lynton) continued to evolve into a company known for producing a product a little different from the rest. This ability to manufacture a Wing that is unique in design is what has been our success. With the use of our own race teams in Australia and America, we continually push the boundaries of design with an extensive testing program of our products each and every year. It is with our understanding of chassis design and manufacturing that we are able to communicate with our clients and tailor a wing package that best suits their driver, team and make of chassis. We call this," The Vortex Advantage". http://www.vortexracingproducts.com.au/
