I've looked all over Knoxville's site to see if they are running 50 laps for the feature again or going back to 30. Maybe it's been announced and I missed it. On the National's page Cappy's quote states "The 50th Knoxville Nationals was a tremendous success and we feel the fans appreciated the format and the event. With fan satisfaction being one of our highest priorities, we felt we couldn't give them less than they recieved in 2010."
So is that referencing the $1M purse only or the 50 lap feature I wonder? Anyone know?

thanks... where are you getting your information from? Did they formally announce it or are you hearing it from officials, drivers, teams who've been told?

I heard right away last year they were going 50 again this year and with the same format and i was one of the many who was very happy to hear it. It was not only the best nationals I have ever been to, but probably the best race weekend i have every experienced. And i feel like it was capped off by the 50 lapper which was edge of the seat exciting. I am one of the many who actually liked the 5 minute pit stop also.
I was one who was glad to hear of another 50 lapper coming.

Glad to hear they are keeping it. I must have been under a rock. I'll take two 25 lap features over one 30 lapper any day.

Gota agree that the 50 lapper last year was the best nationals feature I have seen in the 10 straight years I have gone. It was the kind of race you wish you could take somebody that had never been to a race to. They would be fans for life.

I would have to agree. My 12th straight Nationals (15th total) and the Saturday night main I have ever seen.

The atmosphere all weekend was unbelievable, as it always is. I've never seen a crowd erupt like they did when Shaffer passed Schatz. My entire section was just jumping up and down.
I don't expect a race ever again to live up to that, but keeping the same format is a great start.

People forget that it was shaping up to be a great 30 lap race, too. At least four cars under a blanket, including Kinser and Brown.
It was a great race for 30,40 or 50 laps last year. It was just one of those races that likely won't be duplicated for years, if ever.
I'm not saying it should or shouldn't be 50 laps. All I'm saying is nobody can control the result of the end result.
Suppose that 2011 is a great race for 25 laps, then the break and the last 25 somebody runs away. Then what does everybody say? Same as if the first 25 laps don't match up with the last 25...
Bottom line is that you never know what you might get.

I've got no problems with the 50 lap A Main. I understand traditionalists who want to keep it a "sprint" race with no scheduled fuel stops, but for me the longer I can stay at Knoxville the better (with no help from Mother Nature, of course)
Is this heaven?
No, it's Iowa....Knoxville, Iowa.

The 50th was my first Nationals. Wow what a great time we had.
I like the 50 lap format with the 5 minute break.

They got lucky last year with 50 laps and the outcome of that race....don't expect anywhere near the amount of excitement in the future...pit stops are wrong in this sport.

Last year was my 1st nationals all the way from England! And what a week we had! So much so it didn't take us long to book again for this years events! And in my opinion the 50lap feature ended the week perfectly! Especially when you have travelled half way around the world to see it! And spent some serious pounds to get there!!!
From Nottingham in England! long distance sprintcar
fan!
