LETS TRY 7-26 I think there will be a few race cars in the parking lot so hope to see you at 6:00 pm tues July 26th. We will have a lot of pic from Kevin Pickard. He generously is allowing us to pick out and take home the ones that have meaning to us. There is a lot to look at. Hope everyone can come and join the fun.

We're hoping for a few race cars some of you haven't seen, or seen lately, and because of room and the need to keep it simple, we'll most likely keep it to around three cars.

Also I have the new Don Engle dvd , from 1974 and just maybe a few surprises.

Looking forward to it.

If you have never attenended any of these "get togethers" you owe it to yourself to be there. This has got to be one of the Premier events with all of the greatest drivers, mechanics, and car builders throughout the Southwest.

The coolest thing about these "get togethers" is you can sit down next to Mike Spivey, Harold Leep, Jack Walker, or Dutch and enjoy some good food and good times. How many can say I had dinner with my racing Hero.

You can say that, all you have to do is be there. The BBQ is some of the best around (I'm sure you'll get feed up) and the company is second to none.

See you there!!!

Yea,

The pics and stories we tell here are nothing compared to what we've been seeing. It's been a neurological overload for me.

Update,

Myself and a friend of mine from Lindsey , OK are planning on bringing in our latest projects , a pair of 100" cars. And I'm trying to see if another from inside OkC will make it out as well.

The plan is to keep it simple, and try to have something different each time we have a get-together.

Also I'll be bringing in the Don Engle 1974 video to be seen on the big screen, and a bunch of pics I have found over the past year, mostly from RFTP, facebook etc.

Currently I am working on getting a bunch of video from the 1950's, mostly from the old fairgrounds (now Douglass high school), and of when the now demised State Fairgrounds Speedway, mostly of when it was brand new! Word has it there is even a clip of the groundbreaking ceremony! Hopefully we'll have it ready later this fall.

Food was good and I had a great time.

Harold Leep brought in some extra copies of Sprint Car and Midget , in which he and Chet Wilson were the subject of an article , which of course involved the Offy Killer #25 sprinter.

Tom Pickard decided he wasn't going to let his recent medical issue keep him down, so he told his Grandson to get in, and he drove to Holley's and was fiesty as ever. That was good to see.

Roy Patton, Steve Foster , Darrell Cleveland and so many others came in too. Now....for a summer deal, in this heat, and during racing season- Holley's only managed to fill the room! Me thinks this winter there might be a crowd control issue, but that's cool. More film is coming down the pipeline slowly, and more people are discovering what's going on at Portland and Expressway. It's like a 'free for all' , shoot from the hip deal loaded with positivity. Of all the things that don't go right, so much more pushes through and MAKES IT RIGHT.............the power is stronger than the intentions, and both are good to be around.

Bill Cundiff and I brought in a car each, and it turns out Randy Whitson OWNED THEM BOTH AT ONE TIME, or another! IT turns out the black and white #38 I had, was his first race car (26 when he had it in 1976).......which is kinda weird since the car that I DO OWN is , well #26...........................without the right medication, that could keep me up at night. LOL

Anyways, later on Squirrelly Bob Hurley of 1970's, OkC fame, is looking at the #38...........muttering to himself.............."I know ....this......car..............Phil Hancock!, BRIAN- Did Phil Hancock own this car at one time?

Yeah......Then he sold it to Gary Cole.

..........Bob goes "I knew it! I built that car!"

------See this is cool to me. The #38 car I get to mess with , has been near me and in the family since 1977. I used to play in the car when it was in a pasture. WE NEVER KNEW who built it, who drove it, or what it won. Eventually I found out it was an old Gary Cole car, and that Hancock owned first, which I learned at the other get togethers at the old location. LAST night, I find out who actually built the frame, and who my Uncle bought it from. After 34 years! ..............which proves it a small world after all.

Man all ya gotta do is mingle and get along, ya just never know................

The name tag deal is the best deal yet as I got to look at chests for names and people not think anything of it. I go to HOOTERS or Twin Peaks and look for the name on their chest and they think I am actually checking them out.

Mike Howard and Galen Kurth hanging out together. Can you imagine how many negatives those two have between them and how far back they go?

I wouldn't have been this hooked on the nostalgia stuff if not for Mike Pogue, who was in attendance and good for me to see. Met him one year at the Chili Bowl, got hooked on photos and I was hooked. I have since got graduated to finding out videos.

A selfish, proud moment was when Debbie Carson told some people at my table that abunch of people found out about the get together by reading tidbits.

Brian mentioned Tom Pickard and there is another one (will mention when I am allowed) that really need our prayers to get well. I am sure there are more but those two come to mind.

But I think a HUGE "THANK YOU" need to go out to the ladies who helped make it all possible on raceday as well. Annette Self, Debbie Carson and Jeff Leeps mother (shoot me for forgetting the name), and I am sure there are a couple more. They setup tables, condements, cleaned the place up and took down the tables. Trust me when I say we all appreciate you.

And not to mention the Holley's for being gracious enough to host this shindig.

Funny story that happened to me last night. I walked in to the resturant last night and had all ones. Being around racers I was hoping no one would notice b/c I knew someone was going to make a comment about it. So I handed the ladies at the table the money and one of them goes look he has all ones. She asked have you been stripping today? I started to laugh and told her I knew someone was going to say something about it.

That is what makes this gathering so great. You might have only heard of some of the drivers there but everyone no matter how old or young they are still treats everyone like family.
