This film comes from Don Engel . It deals with the end of his season of 1974 , and his racing career in general. Many of you have never heard of Don , but for a time his #501 car was tearing it up here in the old NCRA territory.

Dons class was the 6 cylinder cars, coupled with the supermodified chassis. Now then, Dons car was one of the few that could run well with the v8s and did on some occasions.

In this clip we get to see Don and if you'll know where to look, a younger Shane Carson in the second car he ever raced, the #112 modified.

Some of you will remember this clip we put out last year

Another film of the Grand old Fairgrounds. In 1974 this track was new, and it was a 5/8's mile. Tulsa was loaded with Oil Money, lots of enthusiasm for racing, and several thousand fans in the stands every saturday night

Shane Carson went to Tulsa in 1974, which led to his sprint car driving career. He went straight from 6 bangers to sprint cars! All due to his showing in the 6 cylinder cars.

Shane isn't any taller back then than he is today, hmmm, some things never change. Thank God the H of F doesn't have a height restriction and to tie this in with that other thread of nicest drivers, he would easily be included in there as well....

I blame Shane Carson for my cigarette smoking habit. LOL

I'll explain-

They said smoking stunts a persons growth in their younger years. I noticed the shorter drivers were doing pretty good, and if they flipped, well, the centrifugal force in a flip could be lessoned I reasoned, if I was shorter. So I picked marlboros! LOL

Kids, don't do this at home or anywhere.
