Big Game 410 Shootout Draws Strong Field Of Cars The long-awaited return of the 410 cubic inch winged sprint cars didn’t disappoint a huge crowd at Jackson Speedway Friday night. With 29 of the 410 sprinters turning out to compete for a $12,000-to-win feature purse, the richest paid in the history of Jackson Speedway, and 12 of the KICD 305 sprints turning out to support the big cars, the sun shone down on the speedway and the competitors for the Big Game Tree Stands Shootout, sponsored by Aero Manufacturing, Inc. The top ten in points after the two sets of heat races were Davey Heskin, Jody Rosenboom, Scott Winters, Logan Forter, Dusty Zomer, Mark Dobmeier, Chad Meyer, Brooke Tatnell, Gregg Bakker and Robby Wolfgang. A revenge draw set the Bosma Poultry 10-lap dash lineup to set up the first 10 starting spots of the A Main. On the second lap of the 410 “B” Feature, Austin Johnson flipped off turn two but was uninjured in the melee. The Bosma Poultry Dash would go to pole-sitterChad Meyer, who would earn the pole for the Big Game Tree Stands 25-lap feature. Bill Boles of Harris, IA would capture the KICD 305 Sprint Feature event In the 410 Feature, a red flag would fly on lap two when Scott Winters tagged the wall in turn four and flipped, but Winters would emerge unscathed from the mishap. After the restart, a wild battle between Chad Meyer and Brooke Tatnell would ensue until Tatnell took the lead with eight laps togo to earn the checkers and the $12,000 payoff to cap off a great night of action. Friday, July 8 will be the make-up date for the Spring Nationals for the Jackson Speedway Touring Series 360 Sprints and KICD 305 Sprint cars, sponsored by VanWhye Livestock and Folkens Brothers Trucking of Rock Rapids, IA. Hot laps will start at 7 p.m. with racing to follow. Great run in the feature race for the "Awesome Aussie" Brooke Tatnell and his team. That red flag gave them the opportunity to make some changes and the #59 drove to the front following a long green flag run to the checkers. For several laps, the top four cars ran pretty close together with Meyer, Heskin, Tatnell and Swindell battling for positions. Tatnell got the lead with a pass off turn two with eight to go, and Swindell followed suit a lap or two later. Tatnell had built a bit of a lead which he held until the finish. Although it took a while for the feature race to really get going, it was a very entertaining race with that long green flag run to the finish that had lapped traffic, drivers moving forward from deeper starting positions, and several close battles for position. That was also one of the larger crowds I have seen at Jackson. All in all, it turned out to be an enjoyable evening of sprint car racing action at the historic Minnesota sprint car track.

I'm now looking forward to heading up to Princeton this afternoon for the World of Outlaws show along with the UMSS 360 sprint cars this evening. It should be another exciting and entertaining night of winged sprint car racing at the 1/4 mile bullring in Princeton. Wouldn't it be a hoot if Tatnell could make it two for two for the weekend at Princeton? That will be no easy task racing against the outlaws though. In the UMSS, we'll see if his brother-in-law Jerry Richert, Jr. can double up at Princeton this season. Richert won the June 3 Billy Anderson Memorial race. Chris Graf, Andy Jones and a host of other talented UMSS drivers have other thoughts, so JR will also have a strong challenge in his attempt to "sweep" both Princeton UMSS shows this season.

Winters took the outside to pass Lasoski. Lasoski tried to squeeeze Winters to keep his position. Winters had nowhere to go. Poor showing by the "Dud".
