Stephen Allard wins 1st main event of 2007

By Gary Thomas

Chico, CA - May 19, 2006... Stephen Allard has been on the cusp of breaking into victory lane over the last month and at Silver Dollar Speedway Point Race #8, everything came full front as SA put together an impressive flag to flag victory aboard the 1m Racing, Rocket Chassis special.

Stephen came very close to winning at Silver Dollar Speedway during Point Race #7 on May 11 and the whole team came into this past Friday poised to put the 1m Racing machine into the winners circle for the first time this season. The night started off with Stephen being the very first car to hit the speedway for timed qualifications. His 12.649 put the Johnny’s Lock & Safe, Finley Farms, Cross Creek Trucking, Miller’s Glass No. 1m tenth quickest overall.

Stephen then lined up fourth in the third heat race and brought home a strong second place finish to transfer the JP’s Paint & Body, Platinum Powder Coating, Ringers Gloves, Chico Bail Bonds No. 1m into the 25 lap main event. SA gave leader Eddy Lewis a few looks in the heat, but ran smart to hang on and get a transfer.

The number six pill was pulled for the inversion and it put the Medi-Pro Billing, DMI Components, Hunt Magnetos, Nor Cal Performance No. 1m on the pole for the second week in a row. Last Friday Stephen fell into second and was in chase mode during the race. This time he didn’t let that happen as he powered his way into the lead at the waving of the green flag.

Early on Stephen handled the field as he found a nice groove down low and pulled away as traffic came into play. As traffic occurred Stephen used his head and waited patiently as he had a big enough lead to where he didn’t need to force the issue. SA got around Eddy Lewis first and then had to move up a groove to try and get around a few more cars. As second through third began to slightly close in, a caution came out on lap 12 to give Stephen a clear track ahead.

When the green came back out Stephen continued to lead but he had a host of fast cars coming after him. Jason Statler and Brandon Wimmer were running second and third, but Stephen didn’t let it phase him as he ran his own race and got another caution on lap 16 to keep him out of traffic. Stephen changed up his line on the restart and it faked out Wimmer as SA pulled away and it allowed Statler to move into second. One final caution came out on lap 18 and after that it was all Stephen as he pulled away on the final restart and brought home a convincing win aboard the Graph X Designs, Tom Rolfe Trucking, Bell Helmets No. 1m.

The win is a huge confidence booster for Stephen and the team as it marked Stephen’s first win since June of last season and was the first win since he and 1m Racing re-joined forces in July of last year.

With Silver Dollar Speedway taking a couple weekend’s off from 410 point racing it will give 1m Racing the chance to take a little time off. Stephen will be running next weekend aboard the Scott Miller No. 2sb 360 powered machine. He’ll be running at the new Marysville Raceway Park on Friday night with the Civil War Series and then Saturday and Sunday he’ll be at the Silver Dollar Speedway in Chico. Saturday’s race is a non sanctioned 360 event and Sunday is a Civil War Series race.
