Johnny Parsons III With Last Lap Pass For TSCS Win At Ogilvie Raceway

Ogilvie, MN

By: Greg Parent, UMSS Media Director (6-4-11)

In the second race of their inaugural season, the UMSS Traditional Sprint Car Series (TSCS) put on an entertaining exhibition-style program at the Ogilvie Raceway on Saturday night June 4. After rolling over in the heat race, Johnny Parsons III from the famous Indianapolis racing family atoned for his mishap with an exciting last lap pass to record the feature win. When asked afterwards about the heat race crash which sent Sid Denzer flipping as well, Parsons went on to comment about getting upside down in his last two races. "After I embarassed myself the past two shows by flipping my winged car and then the non-winged car, I needed to make up for that in the feature race tonight. We were able to make repairs and the car ran pretty well in the main event." Parsons edged out fellow Reactor Racing teammate Tommy Kamrath by less than a car length at the checkers.

Seven TSCS non-winged sprint cars were on hand, an increase of three cars from the first show. The exhibition heat race did not go well with a lap six crash coming off turn two down the backstretch which saw both Denzer and Parsons flip while Jalen Morris suffered front end damage. Denzer was taken to the hospital for observation and a checkup. He returned to the track later on in the evening. Morris made repairs, but when they fired the car prior to the feature race, the throttle stuck and they decided not to take any chances so they scratched. This left five cars for the exhibition feature.

Jeff Pellersels, making his first start ever in a sprint car, and Kevin Bradwell comprised the front row for the main event. Bradwell narrowly led the opening lap until Pellersels blew by him. Pellersels proceeded to lead the next eight laps as positions swapped around behind him. On lap 10 of the 12 lap Mora Motorworks feature, Kamrath got past Pellersels for the lead as did Parsons for second. Pellersels clipped a large infield tractor tire exiting turn four and coasted to the infield with some front end damage. Parsons dogged Kamrath for a lap and then made the winning pass on the final circuit. Kamrath closed back in at the finish line and ended up losing by less than a car length. Bradwell finished third while veteran racer Jack Clark was the final finisher. Pellersels was credited with fifth.

The next race for the TSCS series is scheduled for the North Central Speedway on Saturday June 11. The TSCS cars will run a couple of exhibition style races that evening, as they will be part of the program along with the winged UMSS 360 sprints. Traditional sprint car fans can follow the growth of the UMSS TSCS series throughout the course of its initial season on the UMSS website at www.umsprints.com by clicking on the blue logo to enter the TSCS home page. UMSS TSCS news and results will also be on the UMSS Facebook page and highlighted in the free UMSS Report newsletter available at each event. More cars are under construction and should be ready soon to compete in the first season of TSCS wingless sprint car racing.
