I copied and pasted this from IBRACN's notes....gotta give credit from where the info came from and such ya know.

"On Sunday night, the fireworks flew. Second place finisher Derek Drown was again DQ'ed. This time for a technical inspection violation. In other words, he had illegal heads on his 360 powerplant. This motor wasn't inspected by the ASCS officials on Friday night. This motor was bought used from a top running ASCS National tour driver last fall. Many different things could have been done to the motor once it was purchased from that top ASCS team"

Im just wondering if anyone happens to know which "top running" team this was? It would sure make for some great water-cooler conversation, to say the least.

I may be wrong, but, I believe that last year you could run non-ascs spec heads with an ascs gasket, last year was the last year ascs allowed this exemption as they phased in the ascs only heads rule beginning this year. unless i'm totally wrong on this, but there was a motor rule that was phased in the last two years as a "grace period"

anyway, the motor may well have been legal last fall and not last week.

someone smarter on here will be able to give the accurate details.

In the ASCS Regional series I believe you can still run motors with an ASCS gasket. I know you can with the ASCS SOD group as it is in their rules on their webpage. For National shows you must have ASCS heads.

yes, the restrictor gasket rule varies from region to region, but i "believe" last year the national guys were allowed to for the final year. It allowed guys to run non-ascs spec heads (but not all pro heads).

I liked the rule with the restrictor because it allowed folks not to HAVE to buy the ASCS head the first couple years after particular regions (like SOD) went ASCS.

Te problem with the "gasket rule" is that it was proven years ago that you can make more HP with an open head engine running the gasket, than with the Brodix ASCS heads.

I pretty certain that at ASCS national shows you had to have a ascs headed motor for the last few years. I believe only at regional shows was the gasket allowed.

I believe it was 2001 you had to run the Brodix ASCS Spec head. Up until then you could run the gasket.

Hawker, I disagree with your statement.

Hey Kelly, How much better are the newer style Weldtech heads than what was out there 5 years ago? It seems most of the newer motors I see have them. I've been told the make more power. Are all the older heads at a disadvantage now?

With no disrespect to anyone involved... there sure is a lot of "I believe" statements. Either a whole lot of folks are putting the proverbial * at the end of their statement or they don't know.

I'll go with hearsay and "I don't know for a fact."

It's a shame non one can get a definitive answer from the ASCS. That sure would help. I doubt very seriously this is a "top secret rule". The more people that know about it... the better. Less DQs and confusion.

I'd also take Kelly's word on anything that has to do with an ASCS 360. Who has won more ASCS championships and races than the shop Kelly works at?

Please don't answer "I heard..." or "I believe..." btw. LOL

I believe that I heard somewhere that Wesmar has a cubic butt-ton of wins and championships in the ASCS ranks. That's only hearsay though.Smile

I am lucky enough to work at one of the best tracks
anywhere.

We did hear from an ASCS official...z-man is an ASCS official.

I do know who the driver was that sold Drown the motor but I'm not going to say....I believe it would lead people to believe that he was cheathing as well and I'm not going there because nothing can be proven.
