Monster Energy™ Sprint Series Adds Four Big Dates to Schedule!

(Bill W) May 11, 2011 – The Monster Energy™ Sprint Series is riding a wave of momentum, and four big events have been added to the schedule for 2011! Dates are planned for Tri-City Speedway, St. Francois County Raceway, Macon Speedway and a co-sanctioned event with the IRA in LaSalle in September.

On Friday, June 17, the series will hit the Tri-City Speedway. The always entertaining 3/8 mile oval in Pontoon Beach, Illinois will play host to a feature paying $2,000 to the winner. The following night completes an exciting weekend, as the best of the Monster Energy™ series will take on the regulars at the St. Francois County Raceway in Farmington, Missouri!

On Saturday, July 30, a "Bullring Weekend" will be underway when the Macon Speedway in Macon, Illinois will join the already scheduled event on Sunday, July 31, at Shepp's Speedway in Alexander.

Finally, two touring series will collide at the LaSalle Speedway in LaSalle on Sunday, September 25, when the Interstate Racing Association and the Monster Energy™ Sprint Series co-sanction an event for the first time! The event is sure to bring some heavy hitters to the exciting 3/8 mile banked oval, as it will compete a weekend that includes the already scheduled $4,000 to win show at the 34 Raceway in West Burlington, Iowa!

Meanwhile, plans for Friday's $2,500 to win event at Jacksonville are underway. The tentative driver roster can be found below. Confirmations from Terry McCarl, the winner of the season opener, Danny Lasoski, 2010 ASCS National "Ronald Laney Hard Charger" Brady Bacon, and former Farmington champ, Tommy Worley Jr., are the latest entries. More are expected in a count that already exceeds 30 cars!

This might be a dumb question... But is it to late for knoxville and mowa to get an event together?

Knoxville is a little outside of our geographic focus for the time being. The vast majority of our members are based within 30 miles of Springfield, Illinois. Our primary short term goal is to find venues within a 2 hour drive of Springfield besides the weekly show most of our members participate in at Jacksonville Speedway.

In addition to being easier on our members' travel budgets, it also allows us to concentrate our marketing efforts to limited media markets so that we can expose our drivers and sport to new fans. We have received tremendous support from Knoxville Raceway as well as members of the Knoxville racing family. We have a few drivers who are racing at Knoxville weekly, but it is a little too far away for a majority of drivers to have to travel in order to support our series.

Frankly, we are honored that you consider us 'Knoxville worthy' after only about 2-3 months of existence.

The date at LaSalle will run pursuant to IRA rules. It will not be a Monster Energy-themed event. They have had a date at LaSalle for many years and we view MOWA's participation as that of guests. We want to support this event as it is an easy drive for most of our members, is a great track, and the IRA is an outstanding organization.

As a young group, we aren't going to let rules interfere with the ability of our drivers to race. We think that by adding our field of cars to the existing IRA lineup the LaSalle race will be a huge event for the fans. It also gives our drivers exposure to fans from Northern Illinois. Some of those fans will be ones that we want to come to our events when we are in the area on other occasions.

Talk about a great weekend of racing! Friday September 23 is the $4,000 unsanctioned Shaheen's race at Jacksonville. Saturday September 24 is a $4,000 Monster Energy show at Burlington, and on Sunday September 25, a 30+ member IRA group plays host to a 30+ member MOWA group at LaSalle.

No, but MOWA has wisely scheduled Tri-City Raceway in Pontoon Beach IL for a race the night before. Google maps has 87 miles to Pontoon Beach plus 83 miles from there to Farmington. That makes it an easy drive for both Friday and Saturday. Back in the old days before the high cost of fuel, several drivers raced at both Farmington and Jacksonville weekly. Jimmy Hurley from the Springfield area won the track championship at Farmington last year and races there regularly this year (only 2 races so far due to weather) and drivers from both tracks occasionally travel to the other track to race. It should be a great night of racing at Saint Francois County Raceway and could have from 40 to 50 cars.

Good old days are long gone. I used to watch sprints Fri, Sat, Sun. Jacksonville, Godfrey, Canton, Little Springfield, and Peoria would run some Sprint shows. Could go watch Outlaws 3 times a year at Granite and Terra Haute had Winged cars. Those days have been long gone. I am all for it.

Re-read the first 10 or so words.

I think the sentence about not letting rules stand in the way of their guys racing was aimed at not arguing over whose rules to use.

I don't think any of those 3 items are that difficult to change, might cost some money if you have to buy new items but I'm betting a lot of guys have flat wings and its not like they wouldn't have to buy a tire at some point anyway. The shocks would probably be the biggest issue.

Good Job by all the folks involved in MOWA. Adding 4 dates for 2011 is amazing. I am also very impressed with your professional responses to fan's questions. Like the Standridges we travel for many years to Jacksonville on Friday night which is a 150 mile tow from home, then to Farmington on Saturday which then made us over 8 hours from home. We had a blast and I have many fond memories.

Keep up the good guys

Rusty Rogerson
