Dodging wet weather like seemingly all Midwestern racers and tracks have done early in the 2011 campaign, Springfield, Illinois racer Jordan Goldesberry kicked off his 5th season of winged sprint car competition on April 23rd at West Burlington's 34 Raceway, as the eastern Iowa track welcomed the inaugural event of the newly formed Monster Energy Drink Midwest Open Wheel Association. Timing in 15th out of 39 racers on hand, Jordan would bring the #65 home 5th in the GPC Race Products 3rd heat race. As a result, the 20 year old racer would have to attempt to qualify for the main event thru the Kreitz Oval Track Products B-Main. The wheels literally came off for Goldesberry, as a broken right wheel center would send the bright yellow and blue RedStar Graphics, Mothers Wax, Simpson Race Products, GPC Race Products, NGK Spark Plugs, Modern Paving & Scrap, Ultrashield Race Products, SuperShox, Awesome Racewear, Alliance T-Shirts Maxim into a flip, ending the team's night.
Six days later, the team would compete in another season opener, this time the lid lifter at Jacksonville Speedway. A poor pill draw meant that Jordan would start his heat race buried outside the 4th row. A 5th place finish, coupled with the 8th place starting spot, gave Jordan enough passing points to transfer to the A-Main. Despite managing to avoid early race carnage the decimated the original 18-car starting field, Goldesberry would eventually get into the action himself, going for a slow flip in turn two. However, due to the high rate of attrition, he was still able to salvage an 8th place DNF result, even if the team couldn't salvage the top wing.
The team will compete the next couple of Fridays at Jacksonville Speedway, including stop #2 on the Monster MOWA schedule on May 13th for Coz's Pizza Night at the ΒΌ mile Mogan County Fairgrounds bullring.
