PIEROVICH AND HUNT LEAD USAC TO SHASTA FOR “JIMMY SILLS CLASSIC”

SACRAMENTO, CALIFORNIA (April 19, 2011) – With one pavement race and one dirt race in the books, the USAC Western Classic Racing Series will head to Shasta Raceway Park for the “Jimmy Sills Classic” with Scott Pierovich leading the points standings.

The 23 year-old Alamo, California driver finished eighth out of a 29 car field on the dirt at Chico in March, and had a wild back-and-forth duel with Tony Hunt at Madera before a mechanical problem relegated him to finish ninth.Pierovich will have his eyes on his first win of 2011 as he tries to extend his overall points lead over Hunt.

Saturday’s race at Shasta will honor Jimmy Sills, a NorthState legend who has won over 400 races around the world and more than 17 major race, track, or series championships.Sills’ USAC accomplishments include the Perris Oval Nationals and three USAC Silver Crown championships.

Tony Hunt picked up the win at Madera, giving him the points lead in the USAC Western Sprint Car Series on pavement. But a 24th place effort at Chico places Hunt behind Pierovich in the overall championship.

Folsom’s Jerry Kobza runs third in the Western Classic points with Finkenbinder teammates Geoff Ensign and Tim Barber rounding out the top-five.Hogg is sixth in the standings.

The pavement only contingent is led by Audra Sasselli who finished second at Madera. Also expected at Shasta are Brian McClish, Luis Ramos III, Gordon Rodgers, Cody Gerhardt, Marvin Mitchell, Don Emory, Bill Logan, and Tim Skoglund.

Skoglund finished 15th at Madera after a major fire in his Western Speed-owned Sprint Car in the early laps, while his teammate Cody Gerhardt recovered from an early spin to finish ninth in his series debut.

Action gets underway Friday with a testing day from 4-8 p.m. open to all USAC competitors. On Saturday, grandstands open at 5:00 p.m. with racing to start at 6.The USAC NorCal Ford Focus Midgets will also be in action.
