a year later and what did the woo/nst split accopmplish anyway besides showing tk could kick steve kinsers butt given the same equipment. That schatz could kick what was left of the outlaws butts. That becca anderson can qualify decent if you give her enough chances. That no traveling sprint series can live along side the woo (at least not yet). What else? That sprint car fans will find something to bitch and complain about no matter what anyone does to try to make it better.so lets all click our ruby handled grooving irons together and repete after me "There's no place like home,There's no place like home,There's no place like home." Here's to a happy thanksgiving and a hell of a new racing year. And may the racing gods bless us ,every one.

p.s. for you racing scrooges may the ghosts of nsl nst and usa past visit you and set you straight.

The split caused reforms within the WoO.

The split caused a number of drivers to hit the road who otherwise would not have done so.

Both of these things are positives, so it hasn't been entirely negative, although the full effect is not yet known.

It pretty well caused anything any normal strike would. Anything that free will wold make. Anything that would make busines better and make you think about the situation.

Did we need it...not sure....did we have to have it...not sure....did it really make a difference....not sure.

Time and life will tell the story of life. Like breaking up with an ex girl friend or staying together. You just never know the outcome of the choice.

Though I am dumb cause I believe most good comes from all free will choice. Even if it seems to be Horrible at the time.

I think that Dirt has made several positive moves as a result of the split that makes them a better series now than they were. They have shed themselves of people that were fairly ignorant of sprint racing and added some very astute racing savy people. They have also better adjusted to the needs of the racers and the manner that they relate to them. I'm still not too comfortable with their financal status but I think they are a much better organization than they were 12-18 months ago. Lets go racing!

I think the biggest thing the split did was put everyone's cards on the table... The promoters have shown a full house, the World of Outlaws have two pairs (which is one more than they had going in), and our sport's superstars have had to show their bluff.

Too bad there's no pot...lol. Bad publicity has set back the World of Outlaws chances of signing a series sponsor close to two years now, and decades of neglect has substantially shrunken local winged 410 racing as well.

"We have had a wonderful experience with the World of Outlaws," said Las Vegas Motor Speedway general manager Chris Powell. "We have had some outstanding races with some of the best dirt races in the world. But we are excited about the next phase of racing on our half-mile dirt track. USAC and Dirt Late Models have seen their popularity soar over the past few years, and we're confident our fans will love seeing a new brand of racing at our dirt facility."

with no one but the outlaws they can do whatever they want with tracks as well as the owners and drivers so what ever they is good for them if they get the shaft who cares they got what they wanted that also goes for Steve K. Steve has tried 3 times and FAILED every time always has to come back to the outlaws hope he falls on his face this time i have been a Kinser fan from the begining no more sold out for a few bucks then said on tv the move as for the bettement of sprint car racing i think it was his pocket book.

AHHH the split, it started because of MONEY and going to the next level (NSL) remember the statement from Petty (TV and corp sponsors for all) and it ended because of MONEY in Kinser and Lososki pockets and back to the WOO. You can spin it any way you want it ends up with BS walks and money talks. Its just a fact of life. What it did do was split the fans on forums. Who will win in 2007, thats why we will go to a race to find out.

I hate to say it again, but the late models have kicked our butts for several years now. Their popularity is huge and they have a formula for success that is almost non existent in sprint car racing.

If you look around the country you will find over 20 regional late model series (I think it is like 27) that all pay around $3000 to $5000 to win and run 25-30 race schedules. They are very well attended by both fans and racers and they make schedules that make sense. They don't run against the big shows, and they don't run every single weekend. What it does is create better racers who can now run for decent money without racing 75-100 times a year if they don't want to. Plus, when the bigger shows come to town (WoO & Lucas Oil) they are very prepared to be competitive with the big boys and the car counts are great!

I don't know why someone hasn't thought of doing this in certain parts of the country for the sprinters. It might not work everywhere, but it would definitely work in some places and it might be just what our sport needs to get some teams back into 410 sprint car racing.

Some people fear that it would ruin local racing, but with the late models it has actually helped increase the numbers. Most of these series are made up of the same 5-7 local tracks in a specific geographical area and they WORK TOGETHER to help the fans and the racers out. Then on off weekends, you will usually see larger fields for the local shows as well. It seems to be working for the late model ranks, I just don't know why it wouldn't work for the sprint cars as well?

strike? what strike? noone went on strike. they went and formed their own company.how did it make business better and for who. woo did NOT have singing bonuses this year and some teams that were getting $700.00 per race in tow money are now going to get $300.00. also teams have to in effect share some of their merchandise profits with dirt.will ticket prices rise? if fans paid what they paid in 2006 to watch a woo show how much will promotors think fans will pay to watch a show will all the players back?and if promotors paid what they paid in 2006 for a show without some of the teams what will dirt charge them for the new and IMPROVED woo.if people will pay $1.00 for a broken egg what will they pay for it when it is whole?and some of those woo teams that invested money based on what they got last year are going to hurt becuase of the cutbacks.it looks like the ones who are making the most of this deal now is dirt.they seem to have the last laugh.

i'llsay it again with respect to dirts ajusting to the needs of the racers. dirt CUT some teams tow money by almost 60%. did NOT have signing bonus. and is asking for a piece of merchandise sales. remenber some of these teams stepped up when other teams skipped out.

You cant accurately make a determination on the split with only one season. It would be ignorant to think the NST would have a huge effect on the WoO or racing in general their first season. Being new it takes time and information for many to even know this happened outside of the Hosehead family. It takes more than a year for a business to grow or affect another. On the other hand It had the opposite effect on the WoO. Many fans that only go to 1-2 races a year had no idea Kinser and others were no longer with the WoO. I over heard people saying they wont be back and the prices were too high. It would honestly take a few years to judge what really would happen.

Hey humbug,

if you had the chance to make more money and control your own destiny would you take it/

I don't know you so please don't take this personally, having been self employed for almost 20 years, I understand putting it all on the line and making yourself open to criticism while the criticizers hide behind the comfort of someone else who put it on the line to do something they truly believed in....

this may not apply to you but it does to the masses...

If memory serves me correctly this entire split thing started coming about when DIRT was demanding that starters be put on the sprints. If nothing else, the fact that they rescinded that requirement is one thing that was accomplished... at least for the time being.

JMO,We have seen good and bad from the split. Is all well in the world because of it? I'd say not. What we do need to do is get over it and move forward! Some still want to piont the finger at SK and that is that. Look at some of the drivers and owners that still don't want to go back to the WoO? When Fred lost his life this summer, it was the worst thing that could have happened to the NST. I know it is woulda, coulda shoulda, but it would be a whole different ball game for both sides had he still been with us today!!

This thing now is going to take some time to work it's self out. I'm still not a big Dirt fan, but I'm willing to see what will take place from this day forward. You have to understand, they still have alot of work to do!! They cannot sit back and sit on their hands, they have to prove that they have won and keep going in the upward direction!!

I know some of the smaller teams have to be saying OH SHIT, now what are we going to do?? So now they have to keep those teams coming back, they have to keep more teams happy, they have to work harder than ever to keep this thing rolling forward. That is not going to be a easy thing to do!!

I have lost some respect this year from all sides of the sport , and I attended fewer races this year than I have in more than 20 years. But 2007 is going to be different for me, I'm looking forward to the up comeing year, and just hope that all will be better this year. I hope all the bitching next year is about all the good racing on the track like it used to be!!!!!

Good luck to Dirt, the owners, and the drivers for the 2007 season!!!!

GOOD was that the Knoxville Nationals was "NOT" sanctioned by anyone this year. (IMO) thats the way it should be every year.

we can TOTALLY make an accurate determination of the effects of the split after one season because it seems it only lasted for one season. what we can't do is speculate on what might have been if it had gone on longer.we have seen what has happened in the past year with respect to some of the perceived changes at dirt motorsports and some of you are thinking nst had something to do with some of those changes rather than think they were natural evolutionary changes.it can never be really known what caused what to happen because as twenty8 points out there was not enough time involved to really see what would have happened had another series really given the woo a run for their money. and there i guess lies my point. if a group breaks off to try to make changes don't you think they should be smart enough to be prepared to stick it out long enough to make their impact noticeable?some people have commented on taking control of your destiny and trying to make things better for yourself. good points.but don't you think you should also be thinking about wtf happens if it don't work?i mean if this is your livelihood i would think you would make sure it was going to have a good chance of flying before you jumped off a cliff with it.i wrote the original post with enough sarcasm in it hoping to show that in the big scheme of things not much has changed.in fact it has gotten worse for some because as i have said woo has lowered tow money for some teams to below what it was before the split.and other things are going on and are going to happen now that woo is the only game left,so to speak.things that will no doubt benifit woo more than anyone else. thank you guys for taking my post seriously enough to answer back with some pretty good replies.but with a grain of salt added i stand on my original post. happy turkey day !!

In SK talk on wind tunnel last week he said the he told Fred B he would try it for one year; but didn't they try to get the teams to sign a three year contract - what happen to that ?

Stick it out ? What a fool ! Their leader passed away, get a clue. That will close many companies, especially a new one. Any person with some business experience or half a brain knows you are incorrect with your statement. 90% of new businesses show a loss their first year. Also any established company takes a couple years to show their negative changes after losing their main attractions. It in fact does take more time to make a true evaluation. I am not anti WoO or pro NST, but If you think the NST didnt make any changes you are dead wrong. It made huge changes and you can guarantee at the DIRT meetings they were the key subject.

The deal with the tow money, why not spread it out to all?? If you have x amount of money for that and have 20 teams, divide it up between the 20 teams and call it good. Look at the firtst year they had the mean 15, and had 18 full time teams, give them all some money if they are following the deal full time.
